I'd build a clone from scratch for around $18k without carb/ignition.

Add carb, ignition & dyno run in & tune & it'd be about $21.5k.

1st time at the strip for this, only 1 good pass, turns out the cowl induction scoop was messing with the carb, ripped it off & car picked up 8mph & .4sec.
By the time we sussed that it was late so just 1 run with it running right.
    10.29 @ 130mph.
Conditions were crap, strong head wind that was costing other guys 3-4mph & .1-.2secs.
With better conditions & some better data to tweak it a bit methinks it's got a flat 10 or maybe even a 9.9x in it.

Nice one. You picked the time bang on during the build.

So what happens with the reverse cowl?

Low pressure zone created from reverse scoop messed with carby signal, sucking fuel out of it???

Think trick was massive hole/cavity in bonnet so air flows through bay out reverse scoop or have sealed in with front facing scoop ram effect.

100% guessing so probably wrong lol

Struggler off AV8 did all sorts tests like that at drag strip & provide cool info to read.

an easy fix is get a mate to drive in front of you at 60 then 80 then 100 and mark in on your speedo with some liquid paper.

reverse scoops actually take air from a high pressure zone at base of windscreen- once car is moving fast enough to build up the pressure

What gtrboy said, best we can figure is air was moving up past the carb & out the scoop pulling a vac at the top of the carb & messing with the bleeds/signal.
It had a lean misfire, but jetting was exactly how it came of the dyno where it was good.

Results don't lie I guess, in this case the cowl induction was costing about 90hp.

Will be back the track in 4 weeks, hopefully without that bastard head wind, should get enough passes next time out to fine tune it.

Car is working well, on that 1 pass it hung the front left for a good 10m & 60' in 1.5s - may be a little more in the 60', should likely be in the 1.45 zone, track prep was a little off.

rear facing cowl is iconic torana look , so maybe a cold air box - to seal the cowl from the engine bay pressure generated from the air coming in the grille which isnt getting out under the car?

Pipemax, punch in the Hp at the rpm you want to know VE% for & fiddle with the VE% until the pipemax average HP matches dyno results.

Apparently reverse work better unisolated so basically runs through frontal area through engine bay out rear of scoop basically means massive crater hole under that scoop...that is semi sealed by small carby hole so air rushing through bay is also being hit by air pushed in other way by rear of scoop it either gets turbulent or become low pressure...that big banger would want more as much air as possible.

The sealed tray like above would help but most likely on strip forward facing scoop sealed carby with bellow shaped base improves times..pro stock theory anyway.

Might need transbrake for 9's sec mark should have flat 10's in it with time, would be happy just looking at it being such a nice car

Whats benefit would a transbrake provide on a setup like this? If it can stall to almost 5k as is?

Next time out it'll just have the carb hanging in the breeze again, may get a forward facing hornet style scoop sealed to the bonnet for racing at some point.
Next time out will just be starting from where it was fri night, only 1 pass on it with the motor running right so almost no tune up data on it so far & track conditions were costing ET & mph. Plan is to get a solid baseline & tune for ET from there, methinks there is a couple of easy 10ths left in it with better track conditions & a little tweak.

No cage in the car tho, so may or may not get booted! - they've been pretty lenient at AIR lately, I guess they don't want to discourage guys from turning up since the track has just reopened, but I reckon running a 9 with no cage will probably be pushing it too far.

Am surprised that the cowl mess up the airflow so much. Any intention to try make the cowl scoop work with a sealed tray or something? I saw on AV8 that it picked up like 8mph from pissing the scoop off - that's a big gain!

Trying to get my head around this one. The reverse cowl uses high pressure air at the base of the windscreen, shouldn't it be sealed on the airbox otherwise it's just working against the air pressure being forced through the frontal part at the radiator?

    Yep correct .

Either use sealed airtray like circuit cars or massive cavity under scoop so it all goes through radiator out scoop....air should be directed one direction only.

Other thing been found better to run aircleaner than no aircleaner if carby only out bonnet, bigger generally better.

The velocity style aircleaner base worth hp over flat & doesn't fuck with carby signal etc as much.

Hope the hatch gets filmed next outing.

    Yeah, I'll get vid.

Looking like maybe a hornet & sealed base before next meet, owner has one, just has to grab it back from a mate.

the back of the reverse cowl needs to be close to the windscreen to get positive pressure, too far away it will only get turbulence
