Honda Grom - Modern monkey bike.

This tiny thing looks cool to me.

Anyone know anything more than first page of Google?

    Cheap too. $3999 on road.

Would it suit NOPICS as a first bike?

MSX 125, great little bikes. A mate has a "ducati" version and its a blast to ride.

Huge aftermarket industry for them as well if customising it is your thing.

bang on Mini Me, I did the Beewee 100cc 2 Stroke for for 3 years and it served me well, shouldnt have sold it. Then I bought 1 of the first batch Duke 390's and started doing things on it 15yr old boys do, wheels n powerslides. then I stacked it and almost broke my Hip. So I sold it.

the Grom looks the goods but cant help but think changing gears would get boring with little power. and pricey too.

MSX 125 is Asian market Grom right?

Is the Duke a rebadged Grom? What's the Duke model actually called? Italjet? Or is an aftermarket fun kit?

I love real Ducatis but don't want to kill her

    MSX 125 = Honda Thailand.

"Duke" version is a kitted MSX 125 made by X-speed.

Ktm is the brand. Duke is the model.
$4K for the honda and $4.8k for the Kawa seems pricey for what they are.

Duke can be had second hand for 4k with minimal kms and will keep up with a Toyota corolla.

Granted they are 20kg (125kg) heavier and 50mm taller (810mm).

Considering the importers who were bringing them in before Honda decided to release them here officially were charging $6k-ish, I'd sayHonda are pretty spot on with the price. I don't see how $4k for a brand new 125cc, registrable road bike is overpriced. Sure they're severely underpowered but they're not trying to be sports bikes.

I love that thing. Excentuates the monkey look too. This is exactly the sort of info I was hoping for from PF. Thanks. Keep it coming.

Here's a release from that totally unbiased mob Honda Press.

Lads here are taking them to 200cc and slapping on a turbo on em... sposed to be wicked kill death machines but the average guy here is like 45kgs and 5' 3" so even a stocker should have enough grunt for em (stocker will pull my chunky 125kg ass along at 110km/h given enough room to wind it up).

Where's here? I'm going to guess an asian country based on your description of the locals.

There are gangs on groms that get around in one of the motovloggers youtubes. With things like stunt cages and all the other guff that could be fitted.

I'm into them. If they come to Australia I may add one to sit beside my YW100 scooter i use daily

    here = Thailand.

Been meaning to ask the local lads if the MSX has the same 125cc engine as the honda click scooter.... that could do with more cc's and a turbo.... I could then daily it rather than use the car.

Looks like a fuel injected postie bike engine to me - so honda Z50 CT70, C90 CT110 4sp man/auto clutch series engine. Honda Wave/Dream is the same I think.

Pretty sure Click and AirBlade engines are different. Heaps of hop up parts for the postie bike engine - check out Takegawa for some engine porn. Not so sure about the scooters though.

The 2015 models are available NOW for $3799 from the grey importer. He has some stock.

He has the 2016 models on the water and reckons he will have them before Honda dealers. 2016 $3999 on road INCL STAMP DUTY

Honda dealers should get them, they say, by end of July. $3999 on road PLUS STAMP DUTY.

Good bloke. I'd rather buy direct from him. Honda is predatory pricing him out of market but he's been in bike industry for decades and is too smart for the young "guns" at Honda Australia I am led to believe.

Wave engine in the grom. It is similar but somewhat different from the old 50/70/90 stuff.

I rode one a few weeks back. Mechanically stock but had a tyga pipe.

Was pretty fun. Run it to like 20mph in 3rd and cracked the throttle. BRAAAAAPPPP - look down. 21....... 22....... 23.....

I have come to the conclusion the throttle works merely as volume control.

I'm kinda excited by the kawasaki Z125

Same same, but kwak. And it is based on the KLX110L engine, so all teh big bore kits, stroker cranks, V2 heads available will go straight on :-)

The groms can be had here for 2800USD + taxes and rego etc, rrp is 3200
rrp on the kwak is 3100.

I was in an auto market north of Bangkok last month and there were literally thousands of Grom parts to be had. One stall, had maybe 200 alloy swingarms just sitting on the deck. Quality of the welds looked pretty ok. Another guy had about 50 sets of suspension cartridges, same in rear shocks. The aftermarket for these is mental. They are definitely the modern monkey. The temptation is strong...

Should arrive next week. Didn't realise the klx110 parts fitted. I see some serious mods coming in the near future.

They have a sale atm for $4k ride away.

I paid a little under that since my mate owns a kwaka dealership

Just double checked in case my pit bike racing mates are full of shit. Kawasaki alleges that the engines are 'different' but when you have a blanked off starter boss on a 110 and 4 gears but a shift star that only selects 3 - yeah that's different.
