Yeah it was fucking ridiculous. After spending atleast 30 minutes answering questions about the colour of my Grundy's I was pretty shocked. I got a follow up call the following week from them and a woman asked why I didn't go through with it. I said I got it cheaper elsewhere. She looked at the quote and nearly fainted herself and said she doesn't blame me.

Who knows. I wasn't even gonna go past the usual "enthusiast" insurers but I thought I'd call for shits and giggles. I told them everything, and they said as long as it's legal or on the engineers report we're good. Only downside was I couldn't insure for the amount I wanted, $20k was max.

It'd be less offensive if they outright told you to get fucked.

Greenslip prices are all over the place. Sure, there are some differences in coverage, but none of them seem to be competitive to any extent.

Ran my van through the site above. Price varies wildly to the extent of $250, cheapest to dearest.

Renewal I got in the mail the other day is $198 for 6 months, through GIO. Quote on the site is $320. One of the others was $188 on the site.

CTP prices are set by the NSW Govco, but that doesn't stop some insurers taking a fast train to RortTown

It is a shit risk for them, that's why it is so much. Same goes for most late model performance cars - the claims rates are retarded, and that drives the cost to insure up.

The Shannons licence is totally different to general insurers' licences and, as they're far stricter on who they cover. Their cover isn't for everyone and they openly say they pick and choose who they want to insure. Their risk profiles are way more intricate than NRMA, AAMI, Allianz, etc and you spend so long going through all the details because they have really strict risk guidelines.

    Greenslips...wtf??

Did a few this week, greenslip minimum was around $650, max was mid $900. Rego itself $490. All business rego and same garage address. The weight seems to make all the difference and sometimes you miss the cutoff by a few KGs and are paying considerably more.

Most I've paid recently was $1850 for greenslip and rego for 1500kg awd late 2000's model car.

How the fuck does that work? Commodore/Falcon/300 are $800 a year. Paid in it May prior to the price rise. Even my old 2WD Rodeo was over $600 a year when I last paid it.

I was doing home insurance over the phone and chatting to the lady in Victoria, started on about car insurance. She mentioned about the NSW third part insurance. the word she used was "Messy" but wanted to say something much more harsh.

Heart goes out to you NSW cunts.

I was calling around for insurance quotes on a 1987 N/A R31 Skyline about 2008. Had a fair few flat our say "we don't do skylines". Spent 30 seconds dumbfounded explaining it's a locally made 4 door sedan with a small non-turbo 6 cylinder engine, basically a 20 year old commodore in a different body, not exactly a performance car. Absolutely mind boggling.

Well, not only do they have to pay for roads made of tar here, they also have to pay the people who make the roads here.

    Not for green slips, though?
I didn't know that weight is a big thing for the green slip itself, is that new? Volvo costs more than the Commode now the Commode is only a year old, but when !600kg Commode was 20yo & 1250kg Volvo was 35yo they were the same price for green slip.

Soft roaders represent an excellent compromise between the needs of the hardcore 4x4 user and the convenience of a city hatchback. Its clear to see why they have become so popular in todays society.

In SA, a 2.5 tonne 4 cylinder LR Discovery costs the same as a 800 kg[?]3 cylinder Daihatzu to register/CTP

Only difference is between city V country &the commercial vehicles/construction/farming sector.

Divided into number of engine cylinders ...3/4 ...5/6...8 or more.

No mention of driving record[points loss]

Oh, so not all insurers? That's good news! Haven't paid for green slips since last year, wasn't looking forward to what looked like 50%+ price-hikes.

For those playing at home regarding my LS RX8:

    Rego renewal: $353
Greenslip: $891 from Swann, rung AAMI and got it for $720 because have full comp with them.

I looked up last years full comp with AAMI, was $852. Tried to renew on the phone when doing greenslip, guy said lemme talk to someone cause they don't normally do modded cars. Came back to me and said I'm still covered under my current policy, but they will not renew as it is out of their guidelines So gonna have to look at going with someone else for next renewal.

Some insurers won't do modified cars for green slip; others will, even if they won't insure for TPP / TPP&T / Comprehensive.

Having my eggs all in the Shannon's basket seems to make this shit all a lot easier & cheaper. In my case, at least. Sandals & socks probably reduces the risk-profile.

That was what I was told on the phone last year. As long as the car has all mods listed on the engineers report and is legal, I'm good. It's not due until the 16th of next month, I wonder if they will automatically send out a renewal? Kinda sux cause Shannons were far more expensive.
