Just did the greenslip for this year. Fuck me sideways. Has it always been so expensive for older cars? I hear this year they have really cranked the costs up in an attempt to get older cars off the road.

    NSW govco = Massive Wankers.

Greenslip for my old vy ss ute was $750 mark.

Might give Shannons a call but probably pass on the deal.

This must be an annual rant... $708 this year, up another $50 this year but in my other car that was due last Nov was $20 cheaper. It's the same with the comprehensive. Way cheaper on a car worth twice as much and does more k's.

NRMA for green slip can go fuck themselves. It's a pity I was "forced" to insure comprehensively with NRMA at a higher amount (it's done 44k for 8 y.o car so it doesn't really see much time outside the garage) because somehow a slow arse hybrid with a towbar and bigger alloy wheels is a major insurance risk to every other single insurer requiring to call them. I mean seriously! who the hell wants to talk to some sales person just to get insurance??

Something I did here. which can be used for Imports.

Rego papers stated my 300zx weighed 1540kg. This was for the auto 4 seater targa top model. Mine is a 2 seater hard top manual.

Took dead weight out of the car, took it down to the local registered weigh bridge and got a new print out for 30$ Took it to the inspection station, they marked the new weight down and dropped a weight class. Saved me just over 100$ a year in rego.

Not sure how much weight affects rego costs in other states. May be work looking into for someone.

There's a price jump at around 1500, my Evo was over by a few kg's which made the rego more expensive than you'd expect for a small 4 door sedan

Queensland its based on the number of cylinders, so a just under 4.5t 4 cylinder light vehicle will cost the same as a 500kg clubman with 4 cylinder.

I think I'll be hanging on to my SA rego then. Have been looking to transfer it but not worth the cost at this point.

I call BS on weight. The older (2009 vs 2012) and lighter car cost more for CTP and Comprehensive than my 7 seater family cart.

It's registration renewal that goes down not the greenslip renewal

What MZ said; however, CTP increases with age ... rego+insurance for ~1900kg 6.2L new VF was appreciably cheaper than rego+insurance for ~1500kg 3.8L ~20yo Ecomoo.
Soft roaders represent an excellent compromise between the needs of the hardcore 4x4 user and the convenience of a city hatchback. Its clear to see why they have become so popular in todays society.

That's what I thought too but someone is playing silly buggers with me and my fault for taking the easy route and paying the renewal without questioning it.

You'd think so and probably is, but I'm not seeing that with Shannons, about $620 / year accross all my cars, 2004 Pajero, 2008 F6, 2004 Pug 307, 2004 Westfield. All have been about the $610-620 mark.

Maybe I get less arse reaming, dunno

Yep, shannons is by far the best green slip price I have seen.

$600 for a 93 supra vs $900 from NRMA on the calculator.

I'm in the Gong in NSW. Got mine for the 06 WRX yesterday, $505 from GIO. Seems reasonable compared to some others....

Newest reason shitbox ute greenslip quotes so high was area now classed Metro & ute is why hence $990 cheapest on calculator, all others above $1100 yet previous owner claims ute was $650 last year...seemed valid as my last ute was $750 2 years ago.

Fingers crossed they transfer his greenslip renewal over at that price.

Yet to ring Shannons for formal quote.

This is the sort of shit that makes me hate living here. I hope they sort their shit out soon enough, because this may as well be some elaborate scam. Maybe I'm being too harsh, being able to have the great privilege of living in Sydney makes it all worth it.

^ Well if they were to price it appropriately to the positives of living in Sydney, they'd be hitting us up for a fee extra grand at rego time; so it's lucky they don't!
