He got stitched up big time. RMS took his approval off him because he didnít comply with ADR69. They wanted him to do a full scale crash test to prove airbag compliance for an engine swap. Funny how even bullbar manufacturers donít even do that test!

Feel bad for the dude but someone in the RMS clearly had a boner for him. On the plus side my mate bought it to save him doing the conversion on his car and registered it in QLD no worries

FARK, that sucks arse. RMS are known for perverse interpretations of things though. Hence no car limited chance of registering ICVs anymore.

Back on topic the poopra looks are growing on me...

The new x3 M competition has 375kw out of the box.

I reckon these will have a fair bit of headroom performancewise!

Thatís the M3 spec twin turbo S58, not the B58.

But yes, the B58 probably isnít far off. Pity you can get an actual S58 in an M2 for the same price as the Supra though!

I did not know that! So the S58 must be the one going into the new M3, the existing one uses the S55 it seems.

How many 3L turbo straight sixes can the one manufacturer have?

M2 CS will have full fruit S55 (M4 spec) but will be 130k ish

Not to mention current A90 is quicker than M2C in drag strip anyway

If you look at the torque and power curve of the B58 in the supra, it's capped torque from 1600-4500, and capped power from 4500+

so It would suggest there's a fair bit more in it.

1600rpm peak torque - still hears Fanbois in the distance raving on about how much better the previous model is

    ^ no pics(?) loading.

S58 based on B series fixed some the crank hub stuff on the N series engines. Tends to be the higher RPM, DCTs/Autos that make them slip (S55+DCT+tune etc) and pistons slap valves

^ Maybe Iím misreading it, but the rate at which the power is increasing & then slows-down when the boost is artificially limited to make the torque-curve flat rather than continuing to increase ... make me wonder if thereís a heap more potential in there, at least in terms of breathing (mebbe notsomuch in terms of breakages ).
Soft roaders represent an excellent compromise between the needs of the hardcore 4x4 user and the convenience of a city hatchback. Its clear to see why they have become so popular in todays society.

maybe, but my motor has a similar profile, and although you can code out the tourque limiter, the turbo is still a tiny unit and requires swapping out to really have any meaningful effect on the top end. at low rpm, i dont mind the torque limiter, do you really need 800nm at 2000rpm?

B58 is open deck, no? Surely means that we are going to reach an upper limit at some point?

Edit: My bad n55 that was open.

i'm not going to dignify that with a response :P

also, according to part number interrogation, the A90 uses a unique turbo compared to all other B58B30M1.... allegedly a little bigger (what Tada said at US launch event anyway)

I guess a good Rival would be the Alpine A110 and Cayman 718?

I had three runs at the lights against a bloke in a 718 Cayman (non-S) yesterday in my stock M140i. Stomped him every time, he was getting a bit frustrated by the end. They only have 220kW. A highlight was the P plater in the 90's diesel Hilux who thought he could pass us both from a standing stop in the slip lane the third time.

I'm not a huge fan of the whole 'peak torque from 1600rpm' thing because it just gives me the choice of either electronic interference or tyre smoke in my car. However I'm thinking the 275's on the back of the Supra which are 30mm wider than mine will make it a bit more worthwhile!

Yeah, Cayman S is benchmark. Apparently, the M2 comp isn't as competitive IRL as on paper.

There's a great interview somewhere with Tada where he talks about exisiting platform use, or even modification of existing platforms (mostly BMW), and how none were satisfactory, and hence, the new bespoke platform to be shared by the Z4 and A90

hahaha, with the GTX3576 on the 2JZ... 20% throttle would see 23psi and tyre smoke. It was hilarity, in a bad way. Ended up adding some controls in the ECU (Boost target vs throttle opening - as well as rate of change of throttle so the target stays constant during WOT gear changes)

I think the ECU in the A90 employs some fancy tricks to give that feeling of linearity in throttle application.... surely....

    i also enjoyed this review.

sub 4 to 100kmh and mid/low 12s at 112mph seems fairly consistent... not bad for a 85k AUD car

B58 comes in a few different tunes, but in the M140i torque is definitely limited to flatten the power up top.
Mine picked up nearly 90whp with just an off the shelf tune.
Car was flashed while strapped down on the dyno.
High flow catted downpipe got another 10whp with no changes to the tune.
