Last event of the year was run yesterday, no official timing this round as it was a club day but I recorded my own lap timing by mounting the phone to the dash and using a timing app to see the difference on a few different lines. No PB but I am getting more consistent. PB is currently 53.468 sec which is the fastest time this year for a restricted (controlled tyres) class car. Won 6/8 of the 8 races and beat the 2 initial losses on a re-run so pretty happy overall.

Few issues with the car though, overheated just before lunch and blew all the coolant out the overflow. Topped it up and it seemed to last another 2 races before getting warm again. Will investigate further as there is no warning from the temp gauge which was a little concerning. I also broke the front engine mount I made, it looks to have fatigue cracked though the bolt hole so I'll fab up a more heavy duty version before next year.

Video of a race below vs a Mazda 3 BK Hatch.

I'm just running out of revs at the end of 2 straights now, would be nice to find another 500rpm without to much electrical witchcraft. Alternatively might look to slightly increase tyre diameter if the rules permit next year to save up shifting.

hang a peice of fly screen cloth infront of the rad. we have the same issue in our racing, the dirt clogs the rad. the cloth constantly moves so the dirt cant stick.

This is awesome, is it run under CAMS or AASA? i didnt realise you could do wheel-to-wheel racing in non-caged bunkys, wish we could do that here, autocross is a laugh

Made up a ghetto solid front engine mount after the last one snapped, but some fuel in it and entered the first club day of the year at Raleigh RallyX.

Got up and just close enough to the tyre bundles

Video of Heat 3 below which is the best of the bunch, they're not super exciting to watch, might try a second camera on the back to show how close the racing really is.
(Can't see the starting lights in the video but they're on the side of the hut in front)

Ended up winning the day overall but it was only a club day, the championship starts next month.

Open to further ideas as to what other motors I can put into this and/or things to make it go faster in a straight line. The SR20 Pulsar has me off the mark every time. There are no restrictions this year on classes other than FWD, RWD and AWD. A 4AGE seems the easiest option as I don't really want to boost it.

1MZ-FE? Not sure it would fit. I think a 3S-GE would be amusing enough, just cant seem to find one.

Slap a 4AGE head on the existing motor.

Should free up a few horseponies without too much fucking around.

I still keep opening this expecting to see a 600hp space framed rallycross car. sigh.
    Looks like fun though.
"Where can we get hold of a Vincent Black Shadow?" "Whats that?" "A fantastic bike," I said. "The new model is something like two thousand cubic inches, developing two hundred brake-horsepower at four thousand revolutions per minute on a magnesium frame with two styrofoam seats and a total curb weight of exactly two hundred pounds."

Dusted the car off and put $20 worth of fuel in and went racing last weekend. Pretty happy to pick up 2nd outright for the day out of 21 cars and also got awarded first place for the first event earlier in the year.

Car that won was a Mazda 3 SP25 in the video below. His 50% bigger engine displacement tends to help.

Round 2 is on again in 2 weeks

Yesterday was time for Round 2 of the Championship. Won the FWD Drive class which was also the fastest outright on the way. New PB on fastest lap by 4 Tenths and equal first in the championship.

Was having a bit of trouble with it running out of legs just before the corners on 2 straights so went up to a 185/70R14 (from a 185/60R14) Tyre profile on the front and it seems to have worked nicely.

One of the heats got a bit argy-bargy. Nothing a mallet couldn't straighten out afterwards.

Cheers! I've certainly improved a heap from when I started. I think I have the smallest engine capacity in the field.

After playing dodgems with the FTO last month the car gained a rather large oil leak, at first I thought the rear main seal had split. Went to top the engine oil up and it was already full, meanwhile there was about 2 litres of oil on the ground. Continued on like this for the last race of the day and then parked the car up.

This weekend between showers I pulled the motor and well the pictures tell the rest of the story.

Yep, Diff looks to have exploded and made some speed holes on its way out. Might have had something to do with the CIG locker.

Made a fair bit of noise with the shrapnel bouncing around the inside of the belhousing but I still won the last heat with it in that condition and zero oil in the box.

Slapped another wrecker motor in this a few weeks ago after the gearbox failure in the previous outing and went racing again today.

Car ran faultlessly all day and apart from losing indicator brushing a tyre bundle, the car left as it arrived. I put 20 litres of fuel in it, which is enough to do the next event as well before refilling. Best bang for buck racing around!.

Left the GoPro at work so no in-car videos this time.

1st equal today so pretty stoked with that and also equal fastest lap down to 1000th of a second (55.280 vs 55.280) so very close racing.

    Nice work!
I've really missed not doing autocross this year. Such great fun for so little cash.
Lots of minis & mokes including a G13b powered Sports Sedan, a couple of Swift Gtis, a Goggomobil, Porsche 928S, Polo Gti, BMW 540i, a WRX and a few others.

Bit of a late update, but won the 2017 Championship last year, not bad for a little old Corolla. Definitely the best bang of buck motorsport event around.

Unfortunately moving back to Brisbane puts this event at >4 hours away so I'll probably do a Rosberg and hang up the RallyX boots.
