Yeah I think it might've been around $300 as an option but it's on pretty much most surfaces so should save it from scuffs and rocks.

She didn't actually but I didn't think it was a bad idea. Bike looks cleaner without the rear tank pad and it'll have less chips and marks when I want to sell it.

Exhaust fitted. Sounds absolutely tits and didn't notice any decrease in smoothness.

So it gets up to 103c in heavy traffic even in the middle of winter, before the thermo kicks in and it sits around 101c before you take off and it's back to low 90's (in the city). The guy at BMW said that's normal, they don't like stopping all the time. Give no farks, or should I be doing something else to keep it cooler, like different coolant?

From my understanding and experience, it's normal. Mine will get up to about 105 before the fans kick in when stopped in traffic.

Cool. I thought it'd be happier in winter but it's really not much different. Only cruises at slightly lower temps, which makes sense I guess.

If you've fitted a radiator guard it will increase the temps slightly but only by 1 or 2 degrees at low speed/standstill.

The only way I think you'd be able to change it is to get the fan to kick in at a lower temp.

I've got the rad guards yep, but sounds like everyone is in the same boat so I'm happy with that.

Yeah, it's normal. There are some bikes that run up around 110-115 (an old workmate's pre-crossplane R1 springs to mind).
"Where can we get hold of a Vincent Black Shadow?" "Whats that?" "A fantastic bike," I said. "The new model is something like two thousand cubic inches, developing two hundred brake-horsepower at four thousand revolutions per minute on a magnesium frame with two styrofoam seats and a total curb weight of exactly two hundred pounds."

Sports bike derived engines. My ZX10 ran in the low 100 range most of the time. The MT on the other hand has the fans kick in around 93deg (courtesy of a change during flash tune) and generally runs in the high 80's.
