We just ran for 40 hours before rebuild. Just had the head done. I run at 4% though so. Engine has one more head rebuild before I will sell and buy a new one. At the same time I cleaned the exhaust and restrictive in caustic soda.

Why are your revs so low on top and bottom? Cant run more teeth on the rear sprocket? Or canít get the speed?

I was planning to stretch it to 15 hours but everyone seemed to think that was too many. I figured if it was still going OK in a straight line then its all good.

I'm sure the gearing is too high but we've just been running it as it was delivered to get the seat time. He does have trouble getting out of the pits and keeping up at the start which we put down to him going full throttle too early and loading the engine up but the higher gearing is probably a factor too. What max revs should we be aiming for?

Does your kid compete in cadet 9/12?

Thanks for the help, we're both still learning

The other dads should tell you what gearing they are running, we always found karting people super helpful when we were starting out. Failing that, keep gearing it down until the max revs on the Mycron is hitting what that motor is supposed to spin to. The other important consideration is the minimum revs, the higher that is the better it will pull out of slow corners.

    EDIT: Just found this: http://www.vortex-engines.com/motori-rok-mini_en.php

I think that's your engine? If so you've got another 2,000 rpm of headroom to try lower gearing. May or may not be faster, let us know either way.

Thanks Sprinkles, I'll grab a few different sprockets and start playing next time we are up for a practice.

Had my first go with the aligning kit on the weekend too. Super easy to use and fortunately the setup was around where it should be.

I think I can see one in my near future.
I promised the wife I wouldnít buy one on the weekend. 4SS kart will be ordered on Wednesday.

They had a field of 14 on the weekend and it looks like too much fun for not much money to miss out on. My son is already chastising me about him being faster

Total budget is only about an 1/8th of what I spent on my WRX racecar back in the day. Loving how cheap this is compared to cars at this level 😁

Totally agree. Cheaper than mountain bike racing too, although to be fair not at a compatible level. And a lot less trips to hospital with the karting.

Engines are about 1400 and you can strap them to most chassis.

Mines a year or two old Arrow, new engine, tyres and ancillaries and a new mychron5 and set me back about $6k. Could have done it for $3.5 to $4k with an older chassis and second hand engine.

Went for a practice today and Harry had his first ever wet weather drive. This video is the first session. A pass and three spins 😛. Was going faster than I thought he would. Top speed in this session was 87kph. Not bad for a 10 year old I thought.

Another small update for those who care, we are now venturing to other tracks. Racing a state level event this weekend and Harry qualified 11th in a field of 25.

They had to split the class due to numbers so his first race he started 8th and finished 7th out of 17.

    Progress!

It is great. Heís been so excited all week and now all he can talk about is making sure we get entered into the next event in this series (in April...)

Iím just glad heís having a blast and weíve meet some really great people in the sport. Terry Wyhoon was there today with his son which was pretty cool too.
