I was going to comment on the back. Don't know if it's just the camo - but it looks like a citroen

Yeah, it's got a bit of Citroen C6 about it too.

Opel isn't bad at turning out decent looking cars, it's just you start from behind when you have FWD proportions to overcome.

Stupid thing is that this would probably suit us as an eventual family car replacement. But I will be irritated if it turns out to be the best car for our needs.

Face it the Commodore is gone, the segment is going, people are not buying them, it was always going to happen.....lets move on.

As for its replacement, it will be a good looking car for sure and market competitive

Will it be a volume seller like back in the day?....of course not, the market has moved on, it will settle down and sell in Mondeo and Optima numbers.

Holden is going to have to go thru a process of re-invention, using the worldwide GM resources and stay more closely aligned to buyer trends, whether that be SUV, small cars, Hybrids, electric, or autonomous.

Surely they could have kept it RWD and reduced its size... FWD is a massive fail, there are already a myriad of well established FWD shit heaps around.

One thing I really like about declining Falcon/Commodore sales is how much easier it is to pick HWP cars in the distance.

Part of me wants to buy a white Omega, spec it with a V8 and cover the back window with antennas just to fuck with people in traffic.

Enthusiast Car forum people may care, but car forum people make up about 3% of Commodores sales (may or may not be true) most regular customers could not give a shit, they care more about looks, price and features.

I love the V8 RWD Commodore....but like most of you guys did not buy one 'New'

Didn't Mitsubishi try this at one point...

Don't know... Have this niggling feeling maybe there was some Australian made large FWD sedan at some point...
My memory must be failing me, because if they want to sell this, is must be a winner.... So, noone must've tried it before.

So, given this will be made overseas and imported and not locally subsidised in any way, why would I choose this over say a Hyundai i40 or Kia Optima?
I mean, given this is a budget decision.. Because noone would buy a Holden on badge value..

Nevermind that the Genesis has 232kw RWD V6.....
Comon Hyundai.... Give us a 35k povvo pack..

To be honest, I think a lot of people when shopping for their new Camryccorddore will just not bother going into the Holden dealer at all, because the Commodore's image has built-up over the years with shoddy interiors & bits falling off & cheap/nasty plastics.
I reckon they've not gained sales in trying to leverage the Commodore badge (which is only popular now really among people who're after RWD &/or V8 and hence who won't be interested in a FWD one), but instead will lose sales by linking the new car to the fit/finish/trim/paint/quality etc of every model prior to the VF.

Because they need something in the Magna segment, and Magnas are selling better than Commodores at the moment aren't they?
Would be silly to leave a gaping hole in their line-up when someone over in Germany is making something in that size, in RHD form, already.

Soft roaders represent an excellent compromise between the needs of the hardcore 4x4 user and the convenience of a city hatchback. Its clear to see why they have become so popular in todays society.

GM would be better served dropping the Holden name altogether and running with Chevrolet. The Holden brand dies with Commodore, the other crap they sell is 3rd world Asian 3rd rate garbage and the Colorado, their star performer, would sell better of badged as a Chev.
It's as if they can't see the forest for the tress.

Yep, I'd have knocked the Holden brand on the head, too.

Everyone has already said "Neva byin a fukn Holdens agen. No v8s is gay"

And "I've always owned Barinas, and my husband has always owned Rodeos. We are not buying an Australian car anymore".

I'd have gone with Opel over Chevrolet ... Chevrolet has worse quality connotations than Holden, whereas Opel is German so it must be good.

    Was 3 years too soon.

Would've worked ok if they killed off the Holden brand.

Opel the brand is invisible to most Australians. Sadly, most Aussies identify quite closely with American stuff.

Another car based on that chassis and probably around the same size. Chevy Malibu. Proportions aren't bad

I'm not sure they will keep the commodore name.
I mean, it's only 12 months older than me.
Anyone buying a 'commodore' for the name will know it's not a commodore.
Anyone that wouldn't have bought a commodore will not want it anyway.
    So, what are they gaining..
Surely all this "next commodore" is just media covering the story.
If they just said check out the new holden insignia, it wouldn't get as much attention.

Holden, as a name however does have good brand recognition in Australia.
That is why it has survived the globalisation thus far..

I remember the bosses talking about it when I spent some time working in the factory.
Something about how they had a hard time explaining to the american big wigs the numerical facts after they got off a plane and saw a douche that had put chev badges on his Commodore.
