    Torana pro-touring build

So I had this thread about a 32 4 door earlier this year which I had 99% finished, then I saw a Facebook ad pop up for someone wanting a 32 sedan and one thing led to another and it was sold.

Fast forward a month or so later I have rolled this shitter front and centre in the shed after living under a cover for about 5 years totally untouched since purchase. I bought it as an unfinished project which was paneled and "ready for paint". Upon closer inspection it's evident I need to fix everything they have done (*fucked), so will be cutting c pillars, windscreen cowl and various other parts off to get to the rust that has been left as well as repairing the hack job they've done on the parts they did try to fix.

Torana's have always been my thing, the last one I built for tarmac rallys but I wanted something that was more of an all-rounder that could do anything from club level events to Sunday arvo coastal runs with the family. The plan is a full interior, ac and reliability but still be fun on the track. I'm going to convert the front to accept a proper coilover from MCA, and the rear from converging 4 link to 3 link with watt's linkage and coilovers as well. I have AP brakes for the front and rear, and will be running full floater 9inch with alloy center fitted with Wavetrac. Drivetrain is LS backed up with a close ratio magnum 6 speed. There's a few more things but that's the gist of it.

Obviously wont be a quick project but hoping it wont drag on forever.

You know what's funny is just last week I started looking for images of pro-touring cars to get some ideas for the xw.

I've got goosebumps thinking how much I'd LOVE to have a red LX hatch with flares and this 6-cogger LSA driveline...... oh my I need to go home.

Go to dry sump or spend $$ on oiling, lsa’s have a bad habit of tearing up rod bearings

Oh shit really? I'm using a holly cast pan with swinging trap door arrangement. Any word on why the LSA in particular? Mate has done 4 years of Targa, club events and even a 3 hour endurance with stock pan and oil system with the exception of a massive oil cooler on his L98 powered VE with no issues at all so I was using that as a guide. I was playing with the idea of fitting an accusump but I read varying opinions on their effectiveness.

I'm by no means an expert, but from the near half dozen LS's I've broken in the last few months thin oil and forced induction seems to be a no-no for the rod bearings.

an easy fix is get a mate to drive in front of you at 60 then 80 then 100 and mark in on your speedo with some liquid paper.

No idea, could be due the oil squirters or just issues with sump conversions. Heard of 3 cars at the drag strip, 2 on the dyno, and a few vf track cars from a big workshop in melbourne.

Well that's not good news. I have read of a couple of failures on US forums, and most were attributed to over-revving and oil pump failures. I'm hoping with the sump and this baffle kit, as well as an oil cooler I will be covered. I won't be beating up on it all that much and when I do it's normally with a fair pinch of mechanical sympathy, I plan to up the boost eventually but retain the factory redline. I guess I'll just have to see how it goes and hope it doesn't go pear shaped .

Just keep plenty of oil to it and not too thin. Extra capacity with oil cooler will help, not that ive really seen any ls with oil coolers

    This is my sump
