Also drop a block of head sealer in too apparently they help with not only a sealing leaks but also lubricating the water pump.

Raw eggs also assist with filling small leaks.

Dropped the oil, probably 75ml of water in it.

    Yeah, I'm slow.

    Heads off.

Leaking past the head gasket at the rear and into the valley on both sides.

Tell me about re-using the cometics.

Clean up with thinners and spray with hylomar?

Should I paint around the water passages with "something" before dropping the gaskets on as well?

Might just chuck some regular graphite type gaskets on and keep the cometics for "later"

I've successfully reused head gaskets after spraying them with VHT copper gasket cement. I don't know about Cometic/MLS gaskets however.

You need a specific surface finish for a MLS gasket otherwise itíll leak. Theyíre coated with Viton so if youíre going to put sealer on you wonít need much as all youíre trying to do is fill the machining marks. Hylomar would be a good option.

Yeah I (now) know the surface finish is not where it needs to be.

I might be tempted to reseal/assemble enough to hold water and test again (no need for pipes/rocker arms/wiring/fuel etc etc) but since my luck means if it rained nymphos I'd get washed down the drain with a bloke I can't really be fucked trying again when I know the usual gaskets will work properly.

Masking tape up the bores, ear plugs down holes and a really good sanding block with 600-800 grit wet and dry to get the finish nice.
