    Time to move on

    Hey,
Am starting the process of looking around for something new. Currently a Senior Solutions Architect (specialising in most Microsoft applications, CRM, SharePoint, Azure etc) working for a large travel agency in Brisbane. Have skills in various industries.

Not overly keen to go back to the Consulting space.
I'd love to move to a Product Management type role, but without a marketing background I think that might be a bit far fetched.

Willing to look at most jobs in the technology world.

    Any leads or suggestions appreciated.
Jokes about Microsoft or similar not appreciated.

    Cheers
    Kev

Not strictly on topic, but what happened? I thought you were loving it?

Mainly to do with culture and the type of work I'm doing. It just doesn't work for me. The location is great, the work is ok but things are changing (which would mean I'd be doing a completely different job to what I got employed as).
They don't really respect your work/life balance and expect you to attend many out of work hours events. I'm a family man, I like them to be involved in my work and here they are actually discouraged to not be involved, that doesn't fly in my book.

Also some other things which can't be mentioned on a public forum...

I've heard similar stories Kev (regarding the culture).

What do you know about sport & racing?

    Time to move on

    F1, everything.
    Other motor sport, most things.
Other sport enough to hold a conversation.
Racing...big horses run on a track with little people riding them!
Have not worked in the industry but I guess I have a general understanding and learn very quickly due to my consulting background.

Nah not even that. They have an expectation that you turn up to many out of hours social events. They sounded great in the interviews but in reality they take away a heap of time from the shit I actually like doing. Also, I'm not a huge drinker, I like a beer or two at the end of the week, but these guys just fucking drink like I've never seen before. Different world and not one that suits me, but it clearly suits a lot of people, heaps of people have been there over 10-15 years.

Nah not me. I used to work for a consulting firm before this, but not tech one. Someone else on here works for tech one.

If you want to move to Sydney we could have a chat, but nothing in Brissie at the moment

Been there, done that. Did it for a year at an old job and almost became an alcoholic.

Good on you for seeing the warning signs and deciding to move elsewhere.
