    Increasing RPM

Have a 99 GU Troll with a TD42T engine in it.

Has 410,000 on the clock and old girl gets along rather well but lately noticing that the RPM is getting higher for the same speed. Used to be around 2200 for 110kph but now getting towards the 2500 mark.

I have not as yet done a compression test but what are your thoughts as to potential reason.
Seemed like a good idea at the time!

Clutch slip? Or is it auto?

Can't really be in the engine. Changed tyre size or something? It's either that or clutch/auto slipping

changing tyre size only explains it if OP has a GPS speedo. would be surprised it it is clutch slip as you would notice that all the time (I broke the diaphragm spring in a clutch once, it would flare out any time I put my foot down but would hold cruising speed fine)

Tyre size was increased but months ago and this is since that time - increase is since tyre change from 265/765/16 to 275/75/16

Someone's sneakily fitted different diff gears in it while you slept mate. Pretty common issue.

Without a change in diff gears I think your memory could be a little off. 2500 with 32" tyres and 3.9 at gears at 110 seems about right.

Tacho signal wire and or dash problem. They run a reluctor for tach pulse, and fuck out because all patrol owners are dumb cunts and put earth loops and shit in.

I'd check it against a gps, speedbox is a phone app and pretty accurate, have tested against a couple of dash gps units.

If you have owned it for a while id guess you would pick a different engine noise if the rpms had increased?

4wd owner logic, add one 12ga battery feed of 50a capacity to every relay driving 2a of something, earth relays to 4 points. Identify factory wiring and hack/cut, add grounds to engine block and head and body randomly, tee into the same ignition source 12 times with twist and tape. Find black wires and just earth random other things.

It's generic patrol ownership 101 to be a complete fucking retard electrically.

I'd almost guarantee it's an issue with reluctor wiring off timing cover to dash.

    So much angst.

Pretty much par for the course for any old car with a few accessories or even worse - an alarm system...

Going to throw a boost gauge on it to see if the turbo is starting to die - Not eating oil so rings not an issue (well not yet) will see how things go. Thanks for the suggestions

In manual there is a direct drive between engine and wheels. If engine or turbo is dying it won't have any effect on engine speed vs road speed.
