So I fixed up wiring and checked fuses. Engine cranks and fuel pump runs but it will not start. Cannot find a fuse on the computer itself. Will check fuel and spark later today. Any ideas?

Does the fuel pump prime without the engine cranking? The oil pressure switch will turn on the pump when there is pressure, regardless of whether there is an ECU or not.

No. It won't run until I started cranking, thought that was weird

Sounds like the ECU isn't getting what it needs. Where ddi you cut the loom? From memory there's inputs into the engine wiring from the dash area near the brake booster. And the speedo needs to be connected or you'll get a VSS circuit fault (which will probably just make it stall at traffic lights)

Ah the ol' mongoose anti-theft module..surprised it even worked.

Going to holesaw some speedholes into that thing?
an easy fix is get a mate to drive in front of you at 60 then 80 then 100 and mark in on your speedo with some liquid paper.

I have been trying to figure this out myself. Maybe by relocating the alternator to where thr AC compressor is and putting it on an adjustable bracket

I found a belt that would fit exactly. Iirc I unbolted the alternator, fitted the short belt, then bolted the alt back on. Whatever I did it wasn't complicated.

Non p/steer have different tensioner..was either some povo pack or NZ only cars that got vl manual rack.

Should be belt diagram in car manual or online.

Steering will be tad heavy without a pump weight is weight yo'

Disconnect the ps hoses and swing the rack a few times to clear the oil. It's not as heavy without ps as you'd think. Barely even noticed it wasn't there tbh.
I'll see if I can find a photo when I get home.

For extra inspiration do some googling on the GM Motorsport cars setting LSJuan times in the mid 2000s. You will see how much can be cut out of a commodore without caring
