    Lightbar Wind/Whistle noise!

So Friday night I finally hooked up my 52" Curved light bar.

Fromt about 40km, it starts whistling, and she just gets louder as I go faster...at 110km, its un-bearable.

I've had a quick look online and read this is common, and some rubber around the cooling fins can eliminate, any other tips?

Same issue on a mates Maverick...

Gaffer tape / Masking tape over the fins until you work out exactly where the most noise is coming from, then just leave the tape there..

in his case, it was the outer most 5 or 6 inches of bar that created about 95% of the noise, so maybe start there

make sure you allow for some heat dissipation as they will get a bit warm...

What about moving the rack and bar back behind the top of the windscreen, the air might push over it. Don't know how it will affect light angle though..

Maybe try mounting the bar up a bit higher off the windscreen?

Otherwise gaffer tape is probably a decent test

The noise is created due to air speeding up through something. Remounting the bar or garden edging in the right place should stop it

Will most likely be better as it will have less chance of spaying light all over the bonnet

What does it look like profile wise?
Is it crazy how saying sentences backwards creates backwards sentences saying how crazy it is?

That must use more fuel than a 1fz cruiser with all that extra aero drag!

I would guess the whistle will be from the air getting forced between the snorkel and light bar, try taking the snorkel head off see if it still does it...

Run some rubber edging over the fins, plenty of youtube videos about it. My thule roof bars whistled because I didn't put the rubber strip over the T slot when I first fitted them, sorted that out real quick. I've also heard some people have adjusted the angle of the light so the top fins are below the face of the light.
Can you adjust the height of the air deflector behind the bar? Have seen some strange things happening when changing airflow around stuff. A good one was a police department who swapped an old school light bar off a square bodied Caprice onto a new aero Caprice in the 1990s, complaints of savage wind noise. They moved it a couple of inches back and added a deflector plate and it reduced the noise issue.

Maybe it whistles because it doesn't know the words?
"Where can we get hold of a Vincent Black Shadow?" "Whats that?" "A fantastic bike," I said. "The new model is something like two thousand cubic inches, developing two hundred brake-horsepower at four thousand revolutions per minute on a magnesium frame with two styrofoam seats and a total curb weight of exactly two hundred pounds."

Needs to be mounted further back so the bonnet and bullbar aren't lit up with it on.

Yeah I was thinking the same, that would be effing blinding. Fit the cunt properly before worrying about wind noise.

I think adding a rubber in the bottom channel can reduce wind noise.

Haha, got same size light, same thing but at 60, . I ignore it , powerstroke normally drowns it out. Roof racks suck balls at this sort of thing

Hey guys, bit of an update. Bought some car side moulding from Supercheap, and cut them to length, and wedged them in between the cooling fins, and so far its whisper quiet!

I only put them on the 3 lower fins....i dont really leave it on long enough, but so far so good. Will see on my next camping trip in 2 weeks, but idid research, some guy did this, left the light bar on for a day and it was fine.
