    What happened to Autronic?

Been doing a big wiring tidy up on an old Liberty the last few days and it has an SM4 fitted. It occurred to me that I have not heard anything from Autronic for many years, no new products or anything, what's happened there? Did Ray Hall steal their developers or something?

I heard richard is working on a new ECU. Dunno if its true or not. The SM4 was a pretty amazing ECU. Has an incredible amount of capability and thought put into it, as well as some draw backs.

Autronic was always a bit of a one man show, and I guess Richard isn't getting any younger.

I would be surprised to anything new come out until he sells the business on, which I don't believe has happened...yet..

Is it worth/possible upgrading the older units?

    Thanks!

Is it just a software update? Or change the box too?

Not sure what version my 3 is running as it came with it. Runs fine now and Silverwater Dyno were able to tune it fine. So perhaps just leave it lol.

I think Broadhurst meant something that's not Autronic...
"Where can we get hold of a Vincent Black Shadow?" "Whats that?" "A fantastic bike," I said. "The new model is something like two thousand cubic inches, developing two hundred brake-horsepower at four thousand revolutions per minute on a magnesium frame with two styrofoam seats and a total curb weight of exactly two hundred pounds."

Fair enough. Seems to work ok on a 95 Lancer!

They are really good ECU's for their time, and you wouldn't swap one out unless it wasn't doing something you really needed.

Dual VVTI, traction control etc etc.

Still out there, just had my SM4 upgraded to the latest version and got knock board added so pretty happy. upgrade was $99 cant go wrong considering most other ECU's you would need to sell your old one and buy the latest to get new features and so on. (knock board was $550)

Russians forum for Autronic is insane, those guys have added there own boards and so on for heaps of stupid crap like gearbox controllers and so on.

autronic just does not care about marketing and other items sole focus is on the ECU itself and there support is mostly via a forum.

Had a couple of warning lights come on and have to say the support has been great.

Yeah the market has come a long way, they show their age when tuning.

Graphical log trace of target vs measured AFR, live calculation values and trace, inbuilt scopes on everything now days.. The list goes on.

Don't get me wrong, they are great for a $300 second hand ECU.
