Supercharged UZZ31 - Because being responsible is boring

So I decided I have been too financially responsible of late and needed to do something stupid again, so I bought this tonight

    Specs:
    - 1994 UZZ31 Soarer
    - 1UZ-FE, Stock bottom end. Kelford cams (unknown spec). ARP Head studs, uprated valve springs, cometic HGs
    - Custom headers and exhaust system
    - Vortech V2SQ supercharger, running 14psi/459HP
    - Vipec V88 ecu
    - 850cc injectors
    - Twin walbro 255 fuel pumps to an aeromotive fuel filter and magnafuel reg
    - Snow water/meth injection system
    - Rebuilt A340 and torque converter, with suprastick transmission ecu and stage 1.5 shift kit
    - PWR front mounted intercooler, PWR transcooler, Alloy radiator of unknown brand
    - Greddy catch can
    - TT soarer front and rear brakes
    - TT soarer LSD
    - Ksport coilovers
    - Lenso 18" rims, 235/40/18 front, 275/30/18 rear
    - M&W CDI
    - Resprayed in a custom version of the original green (more green/less black apparently)
    - Stereo stuff

Never really been a fan of centrifugal blowers. They sound like the worst of both worlds on paper, but goddam this thing drives nice! I was wrong. The power delivery is great, it just feels like an angry n/a motor. There is no turbo rush or instant s/c kick. The power delivery is progressive and it basically feels like the engine comes on cam as the revs rise and it just makes more and more power till you hit limiter

The only real gripe I have is the ECU wiring, which will be a nightmare if I ever need to diagnose an electronics issue (which will happen sooner or later I'm sure)

Hopefully going down the quarter next wednesday. Not shit headlights will happen whenever I can be bothered.

Want to get it on the dyno to try and get more economy out of the cunt (it doesnt have O2 sensors and averagerd 20L/100 on the drive last night). Might do E85 later but realistically it's fast enough as it is. Much more and I will have fears for the diff/tailshaft/stock bottom end

Impulse buy. Cracked the shits with having the AE71 as my only drivable car at the moment after I had to drive out to Bathurst and Canberra in it in the last few weeks. It really fucking sucks for that kind of driving. I'll keep it as a run around and to haul bulky stuff as the soarer boot is tiny, and historic reg means it costs next to nothing to keep. But I'll use this for any longer drives and for spirited driving whenever the AW11 is off the road (which is all the fucking time)

Yeah I know. I had a JZZ30 in the past so the typical soarer idiosyncracies are not new to me This has the bleeding aircon panel issue also. The A-arms are silent though!

nice score, get familiar with the mixture map feature in the VTS software, really handy for dialing in the light load/cruise section of the fuel map

Goddam. The soarer actually fits in the garage with the KP. Didn't think it would

Pity it will get kicked out again as soon as the adub returns from the tuner

Yeah so this thing is really nice to drive. Not much to report except that the radiator cap seemed to be faulty and it was puking coolant out the overflow. Replaced cap and problem solved. Have also wired up a Spartan2 wideband sensor so I can start analyzing the tune. As expected, idle was fat as, 10.6:1!!! Will be trimming the tune whenever I have a moment, but it drives ok as it is under regular conditions so no biggie

On Friday I started mucking about with the tune with Harreh and found some very concerning stuff. the wideband sowed the AFRs were leaning out at full throttle from about 5000rpm. added in some fuel and it helped but we simply could not add enough fuel to get safe AFRs above about 6k. The injectors were maxed out, and they are supposdedly 660cc!!?!?

On Saturday I went over to Foamy's shop to do some more investigating. Took a closer look at the injectors and the part number is 195500-2040, which equates to a 180cc mazda 323 injector :o i hope to fuck they are highflows or something, otherwise the previous owner was a retard.

Also had a look at the fuel pressure reg and the gauge was reading roughly 28psi base pressure.. that aint right! Tried cranking it up and got it to a maximum of about 36psi and it just wouldnt go higher than that. Dneg then went and put a clamp on the fuel return line just to see what effect it would have, and the fuel pressure didnt increase at all! So it is quite likely that at least one of the fuel pumps is fucked or something (the car is running twin walbro 255s, not sure why).

So plan is to fuck off the twin fuel pump setup and get a walbro 460, which is a much nicer pump than 255s anyway. The car also came with some 7MGTE 440cc injectors, which should flow more than enough, so if these "660s" dont play nice after the pump is replaced I'll swap them out for the 7MGTE injectors instead.

Also got the car up on foamy's hoist and found that the left rear wheel bearing was completely flogged. Have lined up a whole new hub because chances are the hub is fucked on this one haha

Man, between my adub and now this thing, my life seems to be revolving around injector/fueling issues atm

Well it seems I have found my lean out issue

The hoses connecting the pumps were disintegrated. Replaced them with proper submersible EFI hose and slapped it all back together. Once I replace this busted wheel bearing I'll take the car for another tuning run, I expect this will have resolved my issues

Replacing the fuel pump hoses does indeed seem to have solved the lean out issue, which is great

I then set about changing the left rear hub as it had a shit tonne of play. A friend was parting out a donor soarer so went over there yesterday with what remained of my hub so that he could keep his shell rolling. You could say that my wheel bearing was pretty rooted...

I also broke my mallet wailing on the balljoints haha

The replacement hub is going to get a new bearing pressed into it just for piece of mind, and then the soarer should be good to go once again
