    finally got the hub back together yesterday and took it for a drive. its now driving awesome with the fuel pump hoses sorted. pastes 275s at 60kmh and hauls ass all the way to 7500rpm

    unfortunately i think all those lean-outs have damaged the head gasket because after an hour of boosting around it ate about 3L of coolant!!! fucksake

    Where's the coolant going? Overflow, exhaust or crank case.

    Seems like it is pressurizing the overflow. I have to test it

    Before you get carried away, try changing the radiator cap. If still pressurising overflow, then yeah most likely HG.

    if its a early 1UZ the plastic impeller can fall off the water pump...

    Took the car to a mechanic who did a leakdown test and borescoped it. BHG into cylinder 6, and every piston shows signs of detonation.

    Weighed up the risk of fixing the current engine only for it to crack a ringland or shit a bearing down the track from detonation, and decided I should just pick up another 1UZ instead. $400 later and the trusty old AE71 wagon is getting me out of trouble once again



    Got a VRS kit on the way, will order a new timing belt and water pump as well. Give the engine a bday, swap over the cams and supercharger and other bits and pieces from the current engine and then swap it in

    Well this thing is surprisingly still alive. chews water hard but the engine still chugs along for the moment. The last bits i need to refresh the spare engine should be arriving this week

    and so the teardown of the replacement motor begins. gonna throw in some new head gaskets, and the kelford cams and arp head studs from the current engine.
