To think there'll be no one 3rd in LMP1 is a bit of a joke.

Was hoping for a lmp2 win. Needs to happen, and needs to be a way for more than 2 teams to enter lmp1.

In fairness there was actually 3 teams in LMP1. But sadly the ByKolles car died on lap 1.

Next year there will be a bucket load more LMP1 cars. Just not the Hybrid factory cars. Still - if the ByKolles car had run ok it would have won this year. The Ginetta's etc next year look like they could be a far more competitive package even if they aren't as quick as the Hybrid cars. I believe the ByKolles car is withdrawing from the rest of the WEC season to focus on their 2018 car, but if the rumors are right we could see 6-10 of these non Hybrid LMP1's next year.

Rebellion nr13 disqualified for altering bodywork which is against the rules. Great idea to drill a hole so they could tap the starter motor into life at the pitstop but technically illegal.

No really within the spirt of the sport though is it? The cynical side of me wonders if the same thing would of happend if it was a Peugeot team.

I'm still happy for the Jacky Chan guys it's a fantastic result for them.

What a farce. Surely there should be a means test "has this provided any competitive edge or caused any safety risk at all?" If not, then monetary fines or something else would suffice. Exclusion from a 24hr race, it's a bit like the farcical court case for the 2015 Aus F3 championship where both competitors wings were 1mm oversize, so the loosing team got both themselves and the winner excluded so that the last race didn't count, meaning the team that lost the round in turn won the championship. Not exactly a trophy I'd be putting up on display...

The other way of looking at it is they covered the hole to not have body work that wasn't homologated and gain an unfair aero advantage.

No matter how you look at it, they 100% did gain an advantage from this.

They had a faulty component that was costing them significant additional time every pit stop.
They modified the bodywork to minimise this impact, which it appears they were fully aware was illegal.

At this point I think disqualification from the event is a bit harsh. A time penalty that results in the loss of their third place was probably more appropriate.

But what probably tipped the scales for disqualification was sending someone into parc ferme (itself completely illegal) to try to cover it up!

The other way of looking at it, is that everyone else has to take the time to open the bonnet to fix things...so they did get an advantage by making the hole.

Not sure I understand all that...so why didn't he just restart in electric mode and not worry about the petrol motor until he was out of the pits?

I call bullshit on Capillaire's statement. They way he ran out, appeared to wave him off, then quickly snuck back in, looked pretty sus to me.

Another driver said that you can't really see the ref light when you're at the front of the queue, so you rely on the guy waving you off

Still bit of a oversight that the clutch can't manage to survive a couple of repeated take offs, I get that they don't plan for that to happen often due to the electric running in pitlane but I bet Audi when they were around would of made sure their clutch could handle it..

What I can't work out is: clearly it's designed to take off under leccy power, then the petrol motor kicks in once it's moving.

...so why couldn't he switch it back to hybrid power only, instead of using the clutch? Surely there is a big sign on the dash saying that.

Excuse my poor photography skills. What you don't see in this picture summed it up.
Jammed my lens through the gate, 10ppl climbing atop of me also, takes a solid 5mins to get out of the clusterfuck.
Backpack'd it (left my shit in Paris), no fancy lens and just a dumbarse behind the shoot button with no clue how to set it up

    Would do again.
