    Wtac 2017

It's still a ways off but everyones favourite Porsche 968 was out and about doing some testing yesterday. Hopefully they are coming back with a billet engine this year.

    http://www.tdgallery.com.au/p162200211/e8d35af31

It's good to see a car being tested months before the actual event. Cars that finish development with 2 days to spare and blow up on the first day kinda ruin the show for me.

    Same logic.

but back on topic if im back from japan i will go to it this year i have missed out a couple years in a row due to japan trips. would like to see these guys do well as you said same car not being built last min like a lot of the other teams.

after following the global time attack series there are some very fast cars out there but i doubt we will see them in Aust.

There's been cars from NZ, UK, USA, Japan & Eastern Europe from memory. Seems pretty international and respectable to me.

I wouldn't mind going down again this year.

The European events allow full slicks, fucked if i know why WTAC flat out refuse to. There is more to the world than Japan in Time Attack these days. Allow slicks and you'd end up with some serious vehicles like Twin Turbo GT3 Porsches etc being built. They'd start to give LMP's and Formula cars a real run for their money.

I know it's all about club level and derived from the Jap Tuner industry but really the Pro and Pro Am are way out of "club level" league nowadays, why not turn it into a full professional affair for those categories and let them run slicks.

WTAC won't cave on the slicks or tube cars - ever. This year is shaping up to be bigger than ever. Great cars coming from all over the world, and some amazing stuff in the pipeline for demonstrations. I'd go just for one of the demo's that are planned.

    Don't miss it.

Yokohama don't make slicks. That's why they don't have slicks.

If a new tyre sponsor comes onboard then slicks might happen, but Yokohama pretty much created the entire event so I don't see that happening.

That's strange, have been using Yokohama slicks for over 20 years on 18 inch rims.

And can find A005 slicks for wheels from 14 to 20 inch diameter pretty easy through the Google's

Yoko do make slicks, i saw a pic of a Euro TA car the other day with Yoko logos on their slicks. So that isn't the reason. I think it's got something to do with the Jap guys refusing to run slicks as their domestic TA comp runs only rspecs. Or something...

Japan time attack is good because they use stock strut mounts and cars a pretty much based off a stock shell on semi's

Eurovission time attack is extreme. full slicks big power very fast lap times. (also done over several country's as a full championship so more "world championship based" then WTAC is) Next year is going to be a full 8 rounds The SVA EVO 6 broke the outright lap recored at Oulton Park with a 1:21 2nd place was 1:22 old outright lap record was F2 car at 1:24 so there getting very very quick.

MERICA is boring as hell to watch some nice car but nothing to WOW other then a handfull, seems to be a big gap between cars like top of the field and bottom no real middle class

Australia - WTAC good special event for a weekend but still see it as biggest budget wins and no real development more just hire aero guy, build billet engine, pay driver. the tire rule is to help yokohama because if you remember the top cars all ran hancook and then yokohama had a cry and became main sponsors.

Not only do Yoko make slicks, they've run them at WTAC a few years ago for the 1 off Nissan GTR class.

I'm very keen to get back there again this year after missing last two due to blah blah. Think our time has probably passed but just want to have the car solid before the event and get somewhere near potential with new donk and hopefully new aero. Probably be saying this same time next year...shoot me if that's the case.

What class? I'd say they'd let you in unless you have something massively different from what rules allow.

Clubsprint. It is road registered, and I will drive to the track as usual.
I really enjoyed the AUST Timeattack event I did at Wakefield this month, that loosely followed the same rules as WTA (except allowed any brand of over 140 treadwear tyre, so I chose Hankook RS3, half the price of AD08R)
Might even get serious and take the air conditioner out.

Under no illusions that I will place anywhere other than bottom of the pack, but goal would be a PB in the 1.47's, and if achieved, I'd be very happy with that.

That's good 101 you only want PB because combination of you and that bucket of whale blubber
you drive up against heavily tuned JDM junk zero chance. Better off in the BMW thing providing
it dose not fall into limp mode.

    Because they couldn't get 20in A050s.

Also Robaphent, lol at baseball world series. WTAC is way more international than your half-arse meme makes out.

I dips me lid to the organisers for how far they've taken this event and that it's still going. There's always going to be haters and to be honest, try as they might, quali laps are never going to be as exciting as door to door stuff. They resist the slicks and seem really determined on this but perhaps it will only take one really bad accident to change that. That the Pro class cars are 6-8 secs faster than V8's and GTs etc and still only on street legal rubber with massive downforce just doesn't seem right. Tilton popped a few tyres but that could be the way Garth manhandled the kerbs and they weren't new tyres...still....

Technically world series baseball is more international then WTAC, event travels to other countries and has international players. how many counties WTAC been to?

it reminds me of WCW vs WWF each with there own world champion, i would say the European world champion is the better then a WTAC world champion for the whole fact of 8 events over 4 countries and a large international field. but that is just my opinion.

Exactly, but they do have slicks and they could use them for WTAC and not upset Yokohama. So it would seem that it's a rock solid adherence to some ideal or connection to the Japanese tuner scene.

IMHO, move pro and pro-am onto slicks, clubsprint onto medium compound AO50s, keep open on soft AO50s.

Sticking to the whole semi thing because street tyre is ridiculous. Way over the top aero, practically space frame, no lights, no glass, no steel panels. But street legal tyres yo.
