Mazda went full speed on this last year and by Christmas reckoned they had well over 90% done because they knew this was coming and they wanted it completed before the Govt made it mandatory.

Issue is real - we had a 'yota go off in american samoa with no one in it, not running. whole shebang appeared to be corroding away. humidity and heat doesnt help of course.

You can type your car serial number or VIN in their website and it gives status of both units (as well as the spreadsheets with every VIN). How hard can it be to deal with?

Its back in the news because there are still affected cars on the road that haven't had the recall done. I heard somewhere that cars that haven't been fixed by 2020 may be deregistered/written off.

Found out yesterday that our office guy's Triton has the airbag light on for nearly a year. I asked him about the recall and he hadn't bothered to check if it's effected.

Trouble is, people can't distinguish between Euro, Asian and Australian Holdens.

    Likewise Ford.

Been doing e70 passenger airbag recalls at work. Dash out to replace. Warranty pays about 3 hours for both drivers and passengers airbag replacement, the young guns at work are getting it down to 1.3 hours... After you have done 10 it's a breeze.

Shouldn't they actually take 3 hours and not fuck up people cars in the process?

Fuck I hate dealers. No offence.

None taken. I'm not doing them in 1.3, as I don't have the ego nor the energy. I do think most guys in my shop do a decent job. And it's not us that fucked up the airbags, we are just getting lumped with the clean-up.

It's not often a warranty job gets done under the paid time.

Tell me about it... BMW V8 n63 valve stem seal replacement only paid 17 hours when the kit was first introduced to do it on car. They changed it to 21 hours after they realised how ridiculous that was. I've seen guys take longer than 40 hours... It's a shitshow. 32 seals, some you can't even see. And the valve covers take forever to remove.

I bet a subie dash is a little more straightforward than an e70 x5, with rear seat entertainment, rear seat a/c, cid, CAS, head up display, bla bla bla

So does this effect any AU made car?

Full disclosure by July and fixes by 2020.
BMWAU haven't listed some cars using the takata PN via VIN lookup. Notably all 1 series, maybe because they are pov spec BMWs. Anyway, don't crash.

Mitsubishi were really good about contacting owners of registered affected vehicles. To the point where they were a PITA.

The problem with that is firstly the new owner has to send in the change of ownership details, I always do, and secondly the owner has to be bothered to read the recall letter. This guy does things his own way and cbf doing things properly.

It goes off rego though, so you don't have to send anything in. I got a letter and I hadn't even owned the car for a year - just went to the registered owner.

Takata (air bag supplier) files for bankruptcy

I rang up Volkswagen the other day after seeing somewhere on a motoring news site that Mk6 Golfs were on the list now. They still donít have list of VINS yet but said Iíll be contacted by both VW and Qld Department of Transport so theyíd have to go off rego for that (Dept of Transport)

Takata isn't one of VW's main airbag suppliers.

I can't imagine there would be may Australian-delivered cars with them fitted.

Other thing that has come to light, is all the guys who've retro-fitted later model steering wheels into the earlier cars (such as MK6 into MK5).

VW ain't going to pay for that
