    International Sportscar Racing Thread

I know we had a 2016 GT thread which is more or less dead now so i thought i'd start a central thread here for all types of domestic and international sports car and GT racing, will save us creating individual threads notifying others when events are being televised/streamed.

I went to the VLN at the Nurburgring on Saturday 24th June with my three boys, was awesome as always, great weather and we moved around to a number of different spectator area's - Hatzenbach, Tiergraten, Pflanzgarten, Brunnchen.

I snapped this video of an e46 M3 GTR hammering out of Hatzenbach and down the long straight, no other cars in front or behind for some time which is rare in a race with so many cars! As a result i got some great footage of the engine and gear changes as he stormed off into the distance. Turn up your speakers!

^ Yeah but to be eligible i believ you need a German national race licence and to get that licence you need x number of state/national races under your belt. I don't have a tow car here so i'd need to buy drives in various categories to get that experience. Would be looking around the $30k AUD mark just to get the appropriate experience (not incl any damage contingency), then you've got the cost to run in the VLN, damage budget etc. Not to mention you'd be bloody mad to race at the Nordschleife without 250+ laps under your belt bare minimum.

I did have an Australian National Circuit licence but didn't renew it when i came over here but even if i had that i'd need an International equivalent licence and to get that i'd need to have competed in National categories in Oz. So i'd very likely have to go thru the full German motorsport licencing system from scratch anyway and do half a dozen race weekends. Sadly it's all too hard and too expensive given i'm only here for another 18 months. If i was going to live here for good then i'd definitely be aiming for a VLN seat with a view to running in the N24... But never say never!

It started life as a Falcon, that Triple Eight re-skinned into a Commodore.

A 12hr rebuild for the 22 Nissan who has Aussie Matt Simmons on the driver lineup after a big crash in quali and the car stops on track on the first lap. Gutting

Massive crash for the yellow #50 Ferrari at Eau Rouge. That chassis is bound for the scrap heap. Good to see Lathoras is ok

Funny I really dislike in car cameras on any race track or pit stop cameras.
Best to see the action from outside looking on and the racing is on the track
    not the pits

I don't mind watching pit stops. With Blancpain you've got one gun so it's always fun to watch two dudes rushing around trying to change all four tires. You see mistakes happen like Walkenhorst leaving an air compressor in their garage entrance (wtf) and cool shit like the Abt Bentley wheel guy who flicks the tire behind his back.

Well there's the end of the race for the GSR Mercedes from Japan and Jonathan Venters Wrt Audi.

Kaspersky Ferrari leads but I'm still not sold on the Ferraris reliability. Not even half distance yet.

Well there goes the Kaspersky Ferrari . Bonus points to Marco Cioci for flipping off the Merc driver the next time he went past.
