There was a bloke who turned up with a bright orange Unimog to Cars & Covfefe up here a few months back. Parked it in amongst the cool cars, and they promptly disappeared form everyone's view. Brilliant.

The offer of a straight swap for the Sierra is good for this car too, in case you were wondering.

    Front
    365x34 mm / 14.34 in
    Rear
    335x32 mm / 13.17 in

I think I'd prefer an inter F5 6x6 over the Unimog, apparently they're better off road

Man those early ones still look hot as shit. Always loved that sharp rhombus front-end. I almost prefer them.

Thank christ it is not only tastefully appointed inside, but also well-appointed. Alcantara half and half FTW!

So I discovered that the pre 05 cars don't have the same weather shield over the coil on plug set up the later cars have. After all the rain on the trip home and washing the car a few times it's killed #10'coil. Very commen problem and a relertivly cheap fix at $25USD a coil. They are just a normal VW/Audi part so I ducked over to the local parts shop to get one. As expected I got bent over in price at $123 Australian bucks. My plan is to replace all 10 from the US and get some later weather shields on there to stop it happening again.
The same shop also sells the 2WD hubs so I might grab some of them too. I'm happy with the 4WD feel but going by what I've read going to 2WD is easier on the clutch.

It's a piss easy completely revesable job so I'll do it and see how it feels. Takes a chunk of weight out of the car too.
Chucking some semi slicks on it should fix the traction issues.

If I had the money I would buy one today. Unfortunately I just sunk a considerable amount into this car lol.

As for the Lambo so far from the work I’ve done on it its dead easy to work on. You have to pull a bit of stuff off to get the left bank of coils and it’s all pretty easy compared to Porsche stuff. You can see multiple redundancy so on bolts etc so instead of 6 small bolts on the inner wheel liner there is 12 to hold it exactly where it should be. All of them are easy to get to. ECU seems reasonably smart too. It has a decent self diagnosis function that gives you good information. The engine is set up to run as 2 seperate banks so in this case I drove about 2klms home on the right bank of 5 cylinders with the left bank shut down and to be honest it was hard to even tell other than the lack of punch. Audi did some good stuff there.
They didn't lock up the ECU all that much either. My eBay spec scan tool had no worries reading and clearing the code once I’d replaced the coil.

at least they stopped using two separate ECU's to run each bank of cylinders!

sucks they'd never thought it'd rain a lot, i assume the newer parts with weather shields just fit without issue?

i drove my bosses CL600 home last night. it's running on 6 at the moment because the coils/amplifier are fucked, looks like being a 15k exercise to fix. it's a twin spark motor, 24 plugs was 3k or something insane.
Another mate had one too, ran him 12k to get it sorted about 5 years ago.

isnt there a danger of a cat fire with a bunch of cylinders chuffing raw fuel into the exhaust?

i assume if the cylinders are "shut down" then that means no spark or fuel for that bank.

Thermocouples post Cats are meant to cut in and stop that but there are reports of them not doing it and burnt Lambo ensues. Either way it should be treated as a get you out of shit mode. If I was more then a KLM or 2 from home I would of just got the ride of shame.
I’d not driven it since last Friday. I’ve got to be honest I was starting to suffer withdrawals. Whilst it sucks to drive everyday its also fucking awesome to drive every day.

Yeah I gotta find the time to get it out and take some proper photos after I’ve also found the time to give it a good polish after I’ve found the time to learn how to polish it properly.
