Jeff Boulos the old track manager now manages the estate and land sales etc too. Some parts of the town I can tell exactly where I am on the old track because they left a lot of trees still standing.

One mate lives near the old main entrance, when we sit out the front of his place it feels like I'm back at the track again. I went there easily 150+ times when it was a track.

So Iím guessing you can still kinda see where the track was? I wouldnít mind driving out to take a look but then again itís pretty depressing. The least they could have done would be to keep the track and build around/within it but I guess they need to maximise their space.

EDIT: Google street view still takes you through the old entrance and up to behind the control tower which is pretty interesting

And The Straight is the straight.
The rest is gone. If you want to go there to relive the old track don 't bother.

You can work out where you are by looking at Cobbity rd or Northern rd and Peter Brock drive and comparing the distances and scenery with the memories in your head. I also snuck in a few times in the years after it closed and while they were building the town, so i know what streets are where.
I have very poor camera phone footage of me drifting the very dusty skidpan in my ute 1 year after it shut.

Finally got around to re-fitting the driveshaft bolt that fell out today.

    Should be 2 here:

Here's one for Nopistons. Ever seen these plastic air deflectors fitted on the rear LCAs on any of your S13 adventures? I've never seen them before. Should do wonders for my fuel economy.

Stupid car is using an alarming amount of engine oil. My brother took it for it's first decent run since the diff upgrade. Did somewhere between 100-150kms. Before he picked it up the oil level was on the low mark of the dipstick, I topped it up over a litre so it was around 5mm above the full mark. On return it's now halfway between the 2 marks.

Catch can is completely empty. Running Castrol 5/30. It doesn't blow oil smoke like when stem seals were dicked. Maybe just a tired worn out engine?
Might need to do a comp test.

It does roll some coal though, the rear bar has that standard Nissan import rich tuned black sooty mess going on and it uses a shitload of fuel for an n/a 2L.

Also the diff clunk is pretty bad, can hear it around 2nd gear corners. Will have to buy some of the expensive Motul oil that they're meant to run and see if there's an improvement.

Chuck some thicker oil in. 5-30 is a bit thin for an sr. Try 10-40 and up. Try some penrite limslip in the diff, add a little at a time (15-20ml) till you get the desired effect.

    5W30? woah

They were spec'd to use 7.5W30 25 years ago. I've been running 15w60 lately, car seems happy with it.

Yeah seems a bit thin. At the time when I refitted the engine I had 20L of 5/30 in the garage and the Castrol Netlube guide said 5/30 was coolio so I chucked it in and I've been using it for top ups. Not holding high hopes for thicker oil fixing it but it's worth a try.

And also my "Nismo 2 way" that wasn't a 2 way and not sure if Nismo usual 2nd hand special was more like bang bang bang around round abouts.

Think was just setup shit to begin with and didn't help.

Yeah that sounds like mine. What diff oil did you run?

That was some generic Motul I think, but oil wasn't going to cover up that noise lol. New one I run the fancy mineral oil Motul and is silent, but also could be because apparently it's os giken.

Also with engine I've been running Nulon 15 50 for years in all my engines so maybe give that a crack and comp test.

How was the tune too, did they spend much on light load?

I don't think any oil will eliminate the "2-way clunk". AFAIK they respond to torque/load and an NA SR20 might be sitting right on the cusp of engagement at lower speeds. You'd be better off getting another R200 shimmed up tight and forget about noisy mechanical diff woes.

Well last resort tomorrow I'm going to get the proper Motul oil and give it a chance. If that doesn't work we'll just have to live with clunk life. I cbf building another diff.

Got some Penrite 15/W60 today and a new oil filter. Again, will give that a try, if it's still eating oil then we'll live with that too until this motor dies.

When you change the oil in the diff, look up the bedding-in proceedure for it, and try that as well.

If all that fails, add limslip.

Bought some Motul diff oil. $31 per bottle trade price from Phil Gilbert Toyota. Fucked if I could find it anywhere else other than Just Jap, and I'm not giving them any more money. They just order it in and mark it up, they don't even keep it in stock.

Drained out the old almost new oil and pumped in the Motul. Took it for a decent drive. No difference. Still shudders and clunks around corners. Fine in a straight line on and off the throttle. Will just have to live with it for now.

Also got a delivery last week.

One braided clutch line donated by PFer Komdotkom. Thanks mate.

    Fitted that up tonight too.

Take it somewhere quiet, do low-speed figure eights (non-drift) on part throttle.

Will do that tomorrow. Did a couple of part throttle laps around the roundabout. Though this being a 2nd hand centre I'd have thought it would be run in already?

You'd never know if it was ever run-in when new. Not many people do it, or realise it needs doing. It's not so much the pinon and crownwheel, it's the friction plates. They're probably glazed up, and some prolonged loading. The wrong oil can sometimes make them worse, if it's incompatible with the friction plates.

I've had to do the same thing with the Haldex coupling (very similar in principle) in VW Boras. When they're unhappy, they behave like a locker at all times, chattering at low-speed, and wanting to make the car swap ends in the wet. The system is meant to be passive under normal driving conditions, and virtually unnoticable when in operation.

Yeah makes sense and worth a try. Just need to find somewhere to chirp it around.

Crownwheel and pinion mesh is fine, set up by the diff shop.

it looks so suss if you are doing it on the street. i managed to bed in my cusco on a quiet friday arvo in my work driveway even then everyone thinks its weird.

load on the straight and off the throttle when you turn, repeat for an hour, i did 30mins and got sick of it.

    it still clunks but less.
