    Where is the Landcruiser 300 series?

    I'm thinking of replacing the family truckster. I'm probably 6 months off doing something but I thought the 200 series would be good for us as a daily family car and also be good for holiday fraser island dutys 3-4 times a year.

    While looking around it dawned on me that the 200 series is a pretty old truck now, and it must be time for a 300 series. And if the 300 series is coming some time soon then i'd be happy to wait a while for that. However when i looked on the net I found nothing, no spy shots, no prototypes, nothing other than a few other pages with people asking the same question "where is the 300 series?'

    Looking at the model history its overdue
    60 series -> 1980 to 1989 > 9 years
    80 series 1990 to 1997 > 7 years
    100 series -> 1998 to 2007 > 9 years
    200 series ->2007 to 201? > 10 years and counting

    So what gives? Where is the 300 series?

    Yeah, facelift is only relatively new with a good amount of life left in it yet, so don't expect new LC any time soon.

    Why would Toyota NEED to replace it? The bigger question should be, WILL they replace it? Toyota may decide that like the 70 series, the 200 can continue along with updates as required.

    if you like fuel bills and your local servo, look at a LX570 second hand!! can get a well looked after early model one for decent coin (these were 150K plus brand new!)

    toyota/Lexus really are idiots for not selling the diesel lx570 here but they sell it in NZ

    Because thats what they do, make something, then 8-10 years later make a better one so everyone buys a new one.

    unless your Mitsubishi with the pajero, current chassis been going 18 years!

    I work at a dealer and haven't heard anything but usually dealers are the last to know.

    It's been facelifted and I can't see them making a new one for Many years.

    Fortuner too small?

    A mate has a Pajero Sport that seems quite nice.

    Total cost to build a 200 is probably down around $3.24 by now ... why go through all the effort of making a new one when a big part of why people buy the old one is because it's old?
    Soft roaders represent an excellent compromise between the needs of the hardcore 4x4 user and the convenience of a city hatchback. Its clear to see why they have become so popular in todays society.

    Thats a limited edition Altitude model. Spare goes underneath therfore you loose the AUX tank, I rekon it looks heaps nicer and was looking at buying one before. Standard in Japan

    Fuel capacity is one of their main selling points though.

    We just brought a new one of these, it's not a split tail gate as such as its still hinged on the drivers side the same as a normal Prado. But the glass section can be lifted which is sort of handy if you're not too short.

    Surely most people who'd choose to drive one of those are too short?
    Surely that's the only reason you'd choose to drive one?

    Previous shape Prado was the same, iirc the European market versions had the spare underneath as standard. Toyota also offered the previous Rav4 without the spare wheel on the door, US market versions called it the Sport apperance package. Iirc those cars didn't have a spare wheel at all, although I know some owners in the US did fit the spare under the floor. Not possible on the JDM versions though, they had the 3rd row instead.

    Australia is about the only place that gets the swing door and auxiliary fuel tank on Prado.

    Actually according to wiki it's only Australia and Argentina.

    Probably because Australia is about the only country it's sold in where you couldn't get from one side to the other on a standard tank.

    I think Toyota & Nissan have refined the 200 & GU so well for their purpose they'll still be relevant for a few years yet.

    80 series ftw.

    Pretty sure GU is on final run out? The zd30 won't meet euro 6 or whatever it's up to now.

    GU is gone, as mentioned they wouldn't meet the emissions standards. Pretty sure they were all gone by December.

    Where is the Landcruiser 300 series?

    Had our 2013 sahara diesel from new and everything's been sweet except the fkn dirty fuel filter light is always on. Have had the tank dumped and cleaned out and constantly changing filters at Toyota services but they keep blaming us for using dirty fuel. It's just hit 130,000ks and the rear lock mechanism is starting to fail so I'm scared to find out how much that will cost.
