So the black one was obviously a good thing as it sold before I got out to look at it yesterday.

Going to scour the auctions and keep an eye out for one with some minor damage in key areas as a new potential plan has been hatched....

I do remember reading about warning in a buying guide re the non turbos and bore liners.
However, as per a lot of these things, needs to be taken with a grain of salt as often "experts" simply make shit up.
It would be more talked about if were actually "a thing".

    Get a Turbo though

I've a got a facelift 09 diesel cayenne on 18's and steel springs, when current tyres wear out I'm going all terrains. I'd love to make it like a transsyberian rally version. It's already got the same roof rack if I want lights up high, just don't want to drill into the roof for wiring. It's been a good unit.

Lol, the very early ones threw some weird codes when the intercoolers leak. I remember one of the first ones in Australia came into Gulson's throwing all sorts of unrelated codes. Turned out one of the hoses had started to come off the intercooler. Do recall hearing someone say the OE intercoolers can split between the core and end tanks.

No offence, but it looks about as cool as a VT wagon on a GQ Patrol chassis ie. not very. Would be quite the fuck around trying to preruner a monocoque chassis.

That all said, this guy went down a similar path with a VW, he now has a land cruiser I'm fairly sure.

That Toureg looks pretty good imho but its not going anywhere that any other standard 4wd couldnt go. Lots of effort to just meet the standards of an otherwise stock normal 4wd imho.

For good reason, you ever been in one? Makes an AU falcon look luxurious. Biggest heaps of shit ever. Good mate has two of them for some retarded reason, one being an ML55. It goes well and seems capable but fuck they're ordinary inside.

Cool, is that with the stock air struts lifted to max?

    From Wiki:

The Mercedes-Benz M-Class (W163) was available with permanent 4Matic four-wheel drive, which routed torque to all four wheels through all open front, center, and rear differentials.[11] The system used a two-speed dual range BorgWarner 4409 transfer case with reduction gearing, and Mercedes' new Four-wheel Electronic Traction System (4-ETS). 4-ETS simulated three differential locks on all three open differentials, via aggressively braking one or more spinning wheels
Cayennes dropped the transfer with the new model roll out in 2010 from memory.

If you follow the thread to the end, it shit the bed and he offloaded it with a $17k repair bill. Replaced with an FJ73.

Fek. I followed at least one of those thread to the end but missed that bit. I do remember him talking about problems with the auto shitting the bed due to the abuse he was giving it?

Wonder what he ended up getting, would have been a good buy at a few grand for all the custom fab bits to chuck on a Cayenne!

Yeah, maybe just hd shocks, I'd assumed a small lift too? Dunno. Here's my allroad A6 Audi at full height next to my mates stock height cruiser.

As per sketchy's wiki note BUT iirc in Australia, you had to spec the off road pack to get the dual range transfer case. But now I'm not certain.

The GL had the same brake version of creating a limited slip differential a from an open one when it's just in "constant 4wd mode" but I find that retarded on sand.

I'm the GL ESP off , centre and rear diff locks on, full height on the air shocks and low range and it goes almost anywhere.

I'm going to get some stock diesel version 17s and put decent off-road rubber on this.

@sketchy, yes stock air shock travel. Only up to 40kmh at full height though. There's 4 levels.

Was amazed at how little room there is in Russ' Cayenne on saturday morning - seemed awfully cramped.
"Where can we get hold of a Vincent Black Shadow?" "Whats that?" "A fantastic bike," I said. "The new model is something like two thousand cubic inches, developing two hundred brake-horsepower at four thousand revolutions per minute on a magnesium frame with two styrofoam seats and a total curb weight of exactly two hundred pounds."
