    Modifying CAS disc

    gday blokes.

could someone help me out with how to modify my cas disc for sequential

needs only one slot? or is the disc ready to go?

when re installing the single slot disc, where is the single slot positioned in relation to TDC?

    Cheers

Guessing optical cam sensor on a nissan motor?

Assuming it runs at cam speed then it already has the single reset slot on the larger radius.

If it runs at crank speed you will have to setup a separate trigger with a single target on a cam/cam wheel for the 720 degree reset.

Does this outer slot need to be timed to crank trigger?

pulled the dizzy out, found one deutsch pin loose.

do trigger offsets generally fall within the same numbers in 4, 6, 8 cyl? what number to start with a 4?

You can do it off a stock fj20 one.. if it works correctly.. the last 10 or so fj's I've seen have had major issues with the cas

Usually a dud sensor or wiring. The sensors are readily available.
I'm working on a 24+1 drop in substitute.

most ECU's should be capable of running the stock disc.

Autronic I don't think did, nor Wolf. Not sure on Haltech.

I have a dizzy with a 4 and 1 disc that I don't want if you want the disc, as I will be putting the stock disc back in when I use that one.

Not sure if acurate but after hearing Dale has seen 10 dud ones its likely! Saw this once and saved the screen shot to show differences.

Ps, credit to OP, i cant remember where i found this

Think this SR CAS conversion might be the go?

I have an FJ also but would like to find out more if the FJ CAS signal is really that bad even when working well.

thoughts with installing a new FJ sensor, comparing to graph above?

That above graph is bullshit. Two working CAS's because they have different teeth count can not cause that.

They compared a broken CAS to a working CAS, that is all.

The FJ20 optical, when working is all an engine needs for CAS.

I have done a couple of 24 + 1 (or 36-1 + 1)conversions on FJ race cars. Pretty easy using AU tone wheel and a modded dissy.

a CAM sensor with 4 slots is shit. please tell me you are only using the reset window and have an actual trigger wheel on the crank?

if not, AEM do a disc with 24+1 that gives much better res. (equivalent of 30 degrees per pulse, instead of 180 degrees per pulse that the 4 window will provide)

the reset signal (single window) just needs to be somewhere between two crank windows (outer windows), but ideally you want the crank window edge that occurs after the cam reset to occur about 60 crank degrees before TDC (which is actually 30 degrees on the cam) so you're always performing the reset before your first ignition event is due.

so with your 4 window disc, you want to pick an edge (falling edge is more consistent for optical triggers) and have the trailing edge of the crank trigger window occur about 30 cam degrees before TDC on cylinder 1. the cam reset signal will just perform a reset on the next crank trigger that occurs, it just needs to fall between two crank trigger events and before the one you want to reset the crank to zero (which should be about 60 crank degrees before Cylinder 1 TDC)

You can't use a FJ 4 window for cylinder reset as they are all the same size, and not many ECU's use individual resets per window width, they just look for the smallest and reset once per 720.

Ah ok so if you have missing teeth on the crank then the cam signal is just a 360 phase signal and not a reset so it can happen anywhere as long as it's not the same point as the missing teeth.

You just tell the ecu if the cam signal is 1st half or second half.
