    I'm having trouble spotting your car/time in there. There's a GTS-T, but the time doesn't match. And the only 1:23.5s I see belong to a 200SX and an E36?

    This is the overlay of the best lap on qstarz, as you would know its 99.9% accurate, natsoft has it slightly quicker. I dont have one for the 1.24.3 as i didn't have my qstarz with me that day but i should have the 1.25.0 on my other phone, ill update later on if i can find it.

    As far as natsoft timing on the day, my car description was mixed up due to a computer crash from the hosting clubs system. I would appreciate my identity remaining under the cloak of anonymity. Cheers.

    I just bought 265/35/R18's for the rear of the xw, at $215ea, will find out on the 2nd Dec if they're any good but at half the price of a A050 or Z221, I couldn't say no.
    Lettuce know if anyone wants the hook up?

    What is the price on a 185/60R14 82V 5.5" 578 189 JC964? I am probably just about due a set of tyres on the Corolla but don't want to spend bulk coin given the lack of KM I do in the thing.

    Anyone had a crack at the NS-2R??

    lol yeah I read that champ. But it was 3yrs old when he got them and did the best times, and it doesn't make it any less surprising.

    My Hankook Z221 were also 3yrs old when I got them. Seems to be when they get cleared out and the discount tyre mobs get hold of them. So nothing unusual there. I've also bought a set of 2nd hand A050 which were 3yo and 50% worn. Still epic grip. So yeah, very fucking surprising.

    Less surprising when you find out they were his first set of semis... if you wanted to look smart, that was your chance.
    So as he said himself, he doesn't feel he got the best out of them. I'd be putting it down to him gaining experience on semis and getting faster. Still strange feedback on the comparitive grip levels considering how much faster he went on them, but meh.

    Big deal if the yokos where my first semis, i have driven Sandown a shit load of times and know the track well. I really think those A050 weren't stored correctly or something. They just never performed as well as they should have. I only managed to go 1.6 secs quicker than street tyres. They did from new struggle with power down out of the slow corners and i had to be real careful with the throttle and almost wait until the car was straight, that is where the AR1 have made up the difference in time. My car has never powered out of the slow corners better than it has on these tyres. It was an area i always knew i was losing time in but couldn't improve it no matter what i tried.

    As i said in my first post, i think a brand new fresh set of A050 M would be a fair bit quicker and a better tyre but for the price the AR1 are awesome and hard to beat. Oh and i am quite ecstatic that i went quicker with them but i wasn't about to go scream it from the mountain tops given everything ive just said. If you where at the track and came and asked me about them, you would have seen how over the moon i was.

    AR1 gets the thumbs up from me as a bang for buck tyre thats good for sprints, hill climbs and other entry level motorsport.

    10/10 would bang again for the same price.

    265/35 18 AR1 on 18x9.5 Rays GramLights 22kg
    235/40 18 Z221 on 188.5 Rays GramLights 20kg.

    2kg difference in narrower rim and Hankook Z221.

    A050s must be freakishly light to be 2.7kg lighter just in each tyre!!!

    255/40/18 A050 on rays f-zero 18 x 9 = 20.5kg wheels are 10kg each.

    265/35/18 AR1 on same wheels = 23.2kg

    Here is a very blurry chart with specs for AR1 which i found on a uk retailers website. Couldn't find a clear version but you can just make out the details and confirms 13.2kg for 265/35/18.

    Other tyres ive had in this size have been around 10 to 10.5 ish kg. So yeah AR1 are heavy as fuck compared to most.

    we ran some of these for the winton 300 on the weekend.
    like others have said mid corner grip is poor at best but drive grip is ok.
    they lasted ok but didnt offer up much else

    Other tyres you've had have been street tyres. Semis have heavier stronger construction.

    Apparently if I put 255 A050s on my 9.5s, they'll be lighter than the smaller 235 Hankook Z221 on smaller lighter 8.5" wheels. Remarkable

    I had this very discussion with tyre technician- guru (and all round legend) "Bill Person from Gordon Leven Motorsport, Emu Plains"
    This guy knows his shit, and those in the know respect his opinion greatly.

    He said the problem with the cheaper track tyres like Nankang AR1 is not the compound (stickiness) which is easy to get right - hence straight line traction,..... it's the construction, side wall and reinforcement which only the top shelf tyres can offer - hence poor lateral performance of the cheaper tyres.

    Won't bother mentioning how the Nankangs went in the rain on the weekend. I'm sure the experts here already know more about them than I ever will. So I'll just learn from all of them:
    1) They're too heavy
    2) Nankangs work poorly on the rear when you have the grippiest tyres money can buy on the front and you take your rear wing off.
    3) Don't be surprised someone goes faster on Nankangs than their previous 3yo old 'non-fresh' Yokohamas, even if they described the Yokos as having better front grip and better lateral grip. Apparently old, poorly stored Yokos only loose their rear grip, and that corner exit grip more than makes up for the lower grip all the way into and through the corners.

    I've learnt heaps of valuable stuff here.

    Range of sizes has been increasing alot this year, and they've put a tender in for IPRA, but it sounds like the members are very dubious about them based solely on brand name.

    Also a certain group of cars that has gained the most from the change to A050 don't want to risk losing their advantage...

    Has anyone run these of an evo yet? It's hard to find info on pressures, I was thinking of running them at 28 cold for hillclimb/targa. Car will be running at approx 1450kg.

    From what I've seen most people are running around 30 psi hot. Any recommendations?

    You are right about the lack of info, and the importer can't help you either. 28psi is about what we ran cold in the Swift last time out, it's about 960kg. For a hillclimb, are they going to get hot enough to get a decent pressure gain? Maybe you want to start a bit higher? have a read of the first page of this thread, first time out we had them too high cold and they still worked great. I think you would be better being a bit too high than too low.

    True, only running a 225/45/17 so I would think I could get some heat into them on a heavy evo. Might set them to 30 and have a drive through the hills, and see how much they move thanks.
