Surprisingly, another delivery of parts arrived late this afternoon. 6 new VDO Vision gauges to replace the original Smiths fitted in the Jag and a temp & oil pressure sender.

I originally priced doing the conversion of the original speedo, tacho and replacement of the senders for the other gauges but it worked out far more cost effective to replace the lot with these. They're the same size as the original factory gauges and are a similar style but will look cleaner and require no modifications to work with the L98 & 6L80E set up.

Agreed! Although the shitty Smiths gauges were more reliable and less troublesome than the Jag motor!

Going to need some very light springs, Even with SBC's in them the springs were way to high with the weight of that big XK not sitting in the nose.

Already onto it - the L98 is around 80kg's lighter than the Jag 6 so I am ordering a lowered (35mm) front set specifically for the LS conversion.

Managed to get the radiator down lower into a position that i'm finally happy with - ended up dropping it a further 35mm so there's zero chance of interference between the cap and the bonnet. I've also picked up a bit more room to run the OTR which I plan on starting fitment this week. Once this is done and I've finished cutting up the top rad support i'll weld in some reinforcement, patch all of the unnecessary holes and put this in the pile to get powder coated.

Installed the drive shaft and checked the alignment, so that ticks another of the main items off the list. Just the extractors and wiring are the 2 main items left before the motor and trans can come out so I can start prepping the engine bay for paint. I'm meeting with Al from Injection Connection on Tuesday to get a start on the new custom standalone engine loom (not modified Holden loom) and to have the E38 PCM modified. Hopefully that all should be finished within the next couple of weeks.

Reinstalled the starter motor and removed the power steering hoses off the rack so I can start to work on the extractors - looks like i'll definitely be relocating the under dash handbrake with a floor mounted unit as it'll be far easier than trying to fight for space at the front of the tunnel.

Fitted the OTR today and cut the upper rad support to suit. Still need to tidy up the cut out and weld in some reinforcement. I'm rather happy with how it all sits.

I ordered the loom during on Tuesday which should hopefully be ready at the end of next week. Its being made by Al at Injection Connection specifically to order including the correct outputs and additional wiring for the VDO gauges and additional temp and oil pressure sensors.

For a full complete engine and trans loom, all new plugs, all new fully colour coded wiring and test run on a floor mounted L98 & 6L80E trans with my modified ECU its only $1550.

It also comes complete with fuel pump, fan wiring and relays and fuse panel which will all be mounted up behind the glove box

I think this is a far better option than mucking around with a converted Commodore loom, with 10+ year old wiring and plugs which would not be long enough to run through the fire wall and up under the dash where I want it.

After much stuffing around trying to get the HSV extractors and standard WM exhaust manifolds to fit I finally realised that I've been looking at this the wrong way.

Ive ordered a set of (4 into 1)block hugger rams horn style headers from the US which will drop down between the engine mount and power steering rack on the drivers side - no issues with clearance on the passengers side. Hopefully these arrive towards the end of the week so I can fit them next weekend.
