Yeah I'm not expecting it to be much fun but for $4k all setup it'll do

Down day on the Dyna today so thought I'd start sorting out packaging for Drag Week.

First thing to fit is the spare box

I'll make a tray for it to slide forward and out on. I want it in the middle in case we have a crash (it'll still be bolted in place but still)

    Need to fit:
    Spare box
    Spare converter
    Spare 044's, regulator and injectors
    Spare alternator and spark plugs
    Alloy jack
Spare front and rear tyre (will drive on DR's)
    Fire bomb
    Tools
    12v fridge
Two clothes bags (hopefully co-driver doesn't bring all their dresses)

Looking at a way to externally carry spare fuel (maybe off chute mount)

Also ordered number plates for Dyna

After being there this year, I wouldnít call it fun. Iíd say itís an endurance event where youíre fixing cars in the sun for 6 days straight and getting zero rest. Great achievement to finish it but it didnít look fun tbh.

I think (hope) a lot of it comes down to preparation and how hard you push your combo. A lot of the big block 11 second cars are just there to socialise (unless luck shits in their weeties)
I'll be along way away from the leaders in my class (about a second)

I'd probably let the other guys comment because they did the whole 5 days - I only lasted 3 and I was exhausted as a spectator. Yeah, backing it off a notch will help but so many small things went wrong (not so much driveline failures) and I sure didn't see any guys out at night, they were still driving/fixing or fast asleep.
Sorry not trying to kill the buzz, but it's no 5 day rolling party bus.

    Preparation is the key.

Chuck, i assume your passenger is extremely passionate and capable? Or you are just flying Scott (OKE20) over. He would hands down be my passenger of choice. Mechanic, tuner, welder, fixer'er.

If it was me I'd organise a hire car with all your personal shit in it. Clothes, sun shade, someone to check into your hotel room for you etc. Turn that car way down to do flat 10's and survive the event.

My co driver (passenger, ha, he wishes) is an experienced drag challenge veteran and extremely capable dude. My co driver is:

The right royal, Motherfucker Jones (no, I'm not fitting carbies) edit: Lol, I posted this without even seeing the post above. Man, we're already a finely tuned machine haha
As mentioned, Dale will also be there. Yeah, I agree, preparation is the key. The year I was there was the year the 2jz Torana was there and it was a classic example of lack of preparation. Even this year, there were cars leaving Australia that weren't right. I always said, if I'm not cutting times or putting in km's by Xmas, I won't go. This should be at the track in 2 weeks and doing some hot km's early summer.

I plan on doing some 10 second passes in the coming months. It runs 9's on low boost (19psi) and I plan to run mid 20's boost at drag week

    Enjoy chuck.

We did every track, drove the route and every stop. was an endurance for us keeping beers cold and 80mph average on back roads.

You'll have a ball if you're on the money with prep and localising the car (ie, broken bits that can be sourced on the way easily).

I know what you mean, i used to prepare and crew a couple of targa nz race cars years ago. Long days of driving, no sleep, curb side repairs in the middle of nowhere, scrounging parts, getting lost occasionally, dodgy hotels etc. Its all part of the adventure if your into race cars. haha.

Having said that I can see its quite a fucken full on effort 6 days straight in the heat of battle.

Im happy to just go spectate, glad to see this corolla is going over!

My main concern is the a340, might be worth swapping out for th400 if it fits or c4 if it doesn't

TH400 or glide based on what every bastard seems to run. 4l80 if you have deep pockets.

Personally i wouldn't risk a weeks racing & 2500km in a foreign country on a A340 no matter how good it has been built. Localise the car.

Might be easier to get parts for a local trans if your possibly rebuilding in your hotel room at night

The car is light enough and overpowered enough a glide would be the go. I would be having a look at that bottom end before you head over, if you're turning it down a look might be enough, if you're keeping the boost in it needs building to be reliable.

You'll be right, mother fucker is a good guy with a spanner. having done DC a couple of years. I would definately be looking at the small stuff (as well as gearbox) and try and make every part replaceable at the parts store without fancy stuff.

Thats what kills alot of contestants, having custom parts

do you have an entry already ?

I imagine these fill up in days once the entry is opened.

so if you had a entry you would cancel after xmas?

I heard that if you're coming from as far away as Australia, they'll make sure you get in.

    Yeah the system isÖ

Online entry. Try to get in here legit and you're good to go

If you miss that email them straight after entries close and they take people on a first come first serve basis.

After that it's line up at the gate on scrutineering day and again they take people on first come first serve until they get to 350 or whatever the number is.

As shit as it would be, if you missed out I reckon you'd still just do the road trip anyway

The Aussies i spoke to were told if you can get your car here you're in regardless. You'll still have to wait around forever (so to be seen as no preferential treatment) but you are assured a spot.

Just back on trans - no love for C4s on drag week, even the ford guys laughed at the concept of running one. Seems to be th400, glide or 4l80 (growing in popularity due to how fucking awesome and cheap (for what you get) holley dominiator ECU's are).
