    Singapore F1 GP

Ok I'm about to book my flights to Singapore for the F1.
Have never been before, what track tickets should I get? Don't need grandstand seats.

    Anyone else going?

I'm going and bought the three day walkaround pass, gets you to all the areas and the concerts.

With Malaysia no more, next year I'm thinking Singapore or Japan. I reckon Japan for Suzuka but there is a certain appeal of a night race also HMMM.

I ended up getting Padang grandstand seats with a couple of mates. Its near the concert area.

Should be a good weekend. I have a big work exam on Friday, then a bbq with free drinks on friday night, fly out at midnight, snore like a fat guy on the plane and then wake up in Singapore at 6am.

Anyone know a good place for a hangover breakfast in Singapore?

Any of the hawker stalls around the place.
I like the Maxwell Street stalls, good food very cheap.

The walkaround tickets used to be good but over the years they have been trying to put more grandstands and general infrastructure around the place which has squeezed most of the decent viewing platforms out.
    Grandstand tix are the go.
As for food anywhere other than Clarke Quay or the main tourist strips.
They might not look flashy but the hawker centres are cheap, have really good food and some of the cheapest beers in Singapore.

Definitely the hawker centres are best for cheap beers, around $5 a bottle compared to $10++ at clarke quay. Go to a club or bar outside happy hour or decent offers and your wallet will be bent over severely.

Chinatown has a great street for food and drink as well just outside one of the MRT station entrances.

Japan is a great track, but a total cunt to get to. Suzuka was a bucket list item for me but I dunno if Id do it again. The 4 hr fuck around getting a train back to Nagoya is a major buzz kill after the race. If I went again itd more be because Japan is awesome.

    Hawker food is for winners.

Not sure if it still is the case, but I did like in Singapore that you could go in and out of the circuit as much as you wanted (well 7 years ago). Which greatly improved the food options, and lowered the price of food and beers. Mate of a mate kinda thing owned a bar in Boat Quay, so just stayed there between sessions.

We've booked the conference room at our hotel for an hour on Sat arvo under the auspices of doing an F1 technology presentation. If anyone wants to come along let me know and I'll send a formal invite.

Around Clarke Quay Central along the riverfront. Shitload of restaurants & bars. We found one when we went to the F1, had jugs of beer for $12 (cheap as for Singapore). They had tanks full of live lobsters out the front too if you're cashed up.

Edit: Fuck I would love to go back. Did the F1 over there a couple of years back. Didn't have a great time at the race itself but hanging out in Singapore was fuckin awesome.

4 hour train back to Nagoya wtf?

It took us 90 mins max to get too and from the track. We'd leave at close of play generally have to wait for 1 train as the platform was full and then you'd pack into the second train and stand for the journey.

It was a 3 hour wait and a 50min ride for us. It could easily be quicker but the Japanese arent real good at having special event schedules so they still stop at every farmers tiny stop, with noone getting on or off. 120,000 or so people there waiting and the platform supervisors dont even fill the trains up. Comfortable ride back but fucks sake, Id rather be slightly cramped and get home 2 hrs earlier.

After qualifying it was quick... after the race was totally fucked

As soon as the race finished in 2012 we bailed straight away knowing it'd be a shit fight and got a train straight away. If you hung around for the podium presentations then yeah it'd be pretty fucked.

Sure if you could GTFO and itd be better. We didnt rush, hung around for a drink or two, hoped it would die down a bit.... I guess that was a mistake.

Probably also helped that Kobayashi was on the podium when we were there so all the jap fans hung round. We figured, dinner/drinks in Nagoya was better than hanging around at the track.
