Ditch engine and insert new one?

I hear matching numbers is important...

Interior is great except for drivers seat but think I can make it workable.

Has a dead 4ac. Ran it out of oil he reckons. Still kicked over. New battery is already relegated to racecar (this thing practically pays for itself.). Donor also sits on king super lows..

Rhanis wanted to have a play with her baby today. Bolted in new seats and took her for a private track test.. Brakes seem a bit spongy. Might need a bleed because I think the pads are ok.. Probably have not been done in a decade..

Also, daughter had her first attempt at a motorkhana test - an improvised set similar to a lazy 8 (I was going from memory)

Went looking around U-Pull it last weekend was hoping to find a correct grille and new seat base for the drivers seat.

Couldn't find any AE82's with these same seat bases. They all only had the 'flat-front' style like this:

Certainly nothing with even close to a matching material to my existing interior.
But, I found what looked the same style in an AE93.
Problem was the seat bolt pattern was different.

But, I reckoned that the foam was the same shape, so I pulled the base out to bring back.
Tonight I fitted the 'spring' to my base frame (to replace the broken one), then installed the frame into the AE93 foam.
Holes don't line up, but the holes are outside the foam, so it's just a hole to cut in the surrounding material that you don't see due to plastic covers in that area, so all good once it goes back in.
Now to source the correct tartan material to allow new seat covers (or even to at least find a cover that matches my current donor interior, but that can wait - Blue slips for classic rego don't need matching seat cover material). Also, carpet is over and I gave it a quick shampoo / vac last night, but still not happy. Needs a better clean I think. Will have another go later.

Good to see a young person learning to drive properly.
I did 100's of laps around cones and gave me a good understanding of how a car reacts etc!

Road trip over to Adelaide. To allow parts to be interchanged better between donor and twinky over the Christmas break.

Lowered suspension, bonnet, doors. Finish off interior. At least. Also do some cleaning engine bay, exterior. See how she scrubs up

Unfortunately I have discovered unfortunately that the series 2 / 3 have differing front quarter panels...
So, while they should bolt on, the donor quarters, lights and grille would convert my series 1 '86 into a series 3 '88 front end...
Not certain that's the right thing to do.

Also, hoping to get some local mates with vast twinky experience to have a looksie at her...

I was going to drive it over for epic fun-ness.. But decided I'd rather not risk something going wrong. Also, could only drive on permid during daylight hours, and that didn't quite fit into my plans for the weekend.. Oh well.. Will grab a permit one day over christmas for a fun hills run...

Plan for Christmas break will be swap lowered suspension over, finish the interior off, bonnet swap, doors, grille, hatch and bumper. Then give her a cleanup and see how she looks. Also, seem to have got a puncture in the back right on the test track. So that'll need fixing (have the spare on at the moment).

I used to have one of these. The engine blew up and I sold it to Rowdy.

Spent today shopping and wrapping presents. But managed to swap the bonnet over, fit the correct grille and also for the interior side trims and rubbers.

Not stockies, whatever 90s five spokes lobster had on it - BSA I think is the brand.

Miss that car, was great with the 20 valve in it and only just slower at Wakefield than the mx5.
