This is actually a good thing considering a winch's maximum rated line pull is with a single layer of cable on the drum. Each additional layer reduces the effective capacity of the winch, a 5000lb rated winch can drop to 3000lb depending on how many layers of cable are on the drum.

That's why I'm going to shorten the rope to about 6m (4m tray + 2m ramps). The highest load will be at the start of the pull.

Changed the oil and filter today and started replacing the rocker cover gasket. Fuck I hate Diesel engine oil...

Picked up an LED work light to mount in front of the tray

    Ordered one of these :shrugs:

Finished the rocker cover gasket (one bolt was missing and had to machine a crush tube), fitted the crush tubes for the tailshaft mount, attempted to fit the longer tailshaft bolts but need Allen head bolts so back to the bolt store (2hr round trip)

    Wired up the clearance lights....sexy

Do you guys have to get the chassis re-certified after stretching? Most places in the US you didn't have to for decades-now some states require it, some don't. Some require testing after, some just need to look at it, some want X-ray/NDST stress/strain testing...some don't give two shits and will sign any paperwork that you want, as long as you're not commercial...

I am getting the parts together to do a 66 ford F250 this way-the paperwork for my state is easy-but all the surrounding states...not so much. Might as well build to the strictest rules just in case.

So my tow truck went on a tow truck today

Fuel pump dumped it's guts and spewing fuel everywhere. Looks like $1100 for a rebuilt one or $1100 for China's best

On a positive note, I mounted a work light (and pre wired for another on the passengers side)

Both of these make perfect sense....

Although reality is a rebuilt pump would be the obvious fix choice..

So whens the engine conversion start? Barra?

I'd like a petrol motor in it but the theory is the fuel pump is one of the only things that can fuck out on a diesel. It could have been worse, I was planning heathcote or willowbank for next weekend

Don't bother with an engine conversion, you'll ruin it. Just chuck on a hilux turbo kit, wind the new pump up a bit, add a cooler and never think about it again.

how big of a dump did it take chuck? diesel out of the timing cover? or just leaking from the throttle shaft and/or top cover? the top cover gasket and throttle shaft o ring is about $15 in parts and an hour to do. if it's leaking from the little covers on the side it'll still need to come out.

Pretty bigly. Bad enough that I wouldn't drive it. It's dripping 5 or 6 drops a second. From a bit of youtubing it seems a couple of O rings might fix it but, like you say, it has to come off anyway.

My local mechanic (who is a diesel specialist) will only warranty it if I use his rebuilder (fair enough) but they want $1400 for the rebuild

if it starts fine hot and cold, the pump is likely fine. the worst part is the $400 worth of labour to change $20 worth of o rings. i guess if it gets a rebuild now, it's one less thing to worry about later. $1400 is pretty steep for a ve pump.

"Reliable Diesel" have them on the shelf for $800 exchange

    https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/3L-TOYOT...YAAOSwv0tU98bU

Warranty would be the only issue ie the labour charge associated with a warranty issue
