So I run open the sunroof and pour water into the drains, and they flow cleanly.

I pull out and remove all the drain plugs under the car and in the sills and the wheel wells.

I leave the dash out of the car for 3 weeks, driving around in silence to see where the water is coming from.

    nothing.

Air con on, air con off. in the rain, in the dry, no water.

So I finally decide to put the car back together.

then this morning in 25 degree heat, no rain, my feet start getting wet again.

I swear the water is appearing out of thin air!
I don't know the cayenne, but in some other vehicles there's a rubber drain that lets the aircon condensate flow out of the ducting, these rubber tubes are "self sealing" so that insects can't get into the car while it's parked up, sometimes they stick shut and the air pressure in the ducts isn't enough to force them open, and the condensate collects.

    Just an idea...

I know the BA coons have some kind of plug like that in the ac drain tube. Cunt of a location to access above the box, and of course your arms need to lean against the cat. So need the car cold to even try it

yes, I have tried all that, except the AC tube. They are not too clear where it is, but Im sure that I will find it... All the external drains are done, it must be the one in the cabin.

Stix and I were discussing a Turbo I found on Carsales over the weekend, sub $20k with sub 200k on it.

I am glad I don't have $20k burning a hole in my pocket right now otherwise I'd have already bought it for a laugh.

I could not find one sub 20k with sub 200k on it. if you can, it is either really cheap (compared to what I saw) or really broken.

I looked at one asking $10k, but had so much water damage (from the same thing I am chasing now) that no one would touch it.

if it is genuine at that price, it would be a great pick up.

I had a similar problem with a Series 1 Disco many moons ago and it turned out to be the AC drain that went through the firewall from inside the cabin so the AC could drain outside the car .......

Dopey younger brother with exceedingly long legs had tucked his toes up under the passenger footwell and nudged the hose enough so it drained inside the cabin.

Drove me nuts .......... but found it in the end ... maybe look for something similar ?

I will be pulling the underside of the dash apart this weekend, trying to find this. I am now reasonably sure (about 70% sure) that it is air conditioner condensation, due to the amount of water in the cabin even when it is not raining.

not sure how it is getting to both the drivers and passengers side floors, but eventually there will be a reasonable explanation, I assume!

Just to give anyone wanting to know an update... I removed the drain hose from the bottom of the AC unit (passenger side bottom right angle hose) and when I did, water poured out.

so my original thoughts that this wasnt it have proven to be wrong.

So the rubber hose through the firewall just happened to be the right size for my garden hose. So I put the garden hose in the passenger footwell and jammed it into the rubber end.

Turning it on full, the hose was well and truly cleaned out, and it now flows cleanly out of the car.

So it was quite a simple fix in the end, and after running the AC all weekend, it seems to be sorted.

Slight thread derail, do Cayenne brakes come up for sale very often? I'd like to throw a set on my Amarok.

After experiencing the 6 pot Brembos in the mustang it feels like I'm hanging plastic bags out the window to slow the truck down now

Amarok brakes are pretty ordinary. I can confirm that. Having the rear drums cleaned and readjusted did make a decent difference.

One of my work clients put Mov'it 440mm carbon ceramic brakes on his wife's Cayenne.

Fills the wheels nicely but probably worth more than a budget Cayenne.

ECStuning used to have Cayenne brake kits for sensible pricing.

Meanwhile, for those who like to gamble, here's an '04 S on the WOVR that'll sell for sub-10k -

Looks perfect for what I would want, WOVI repaired back in 2011 but can't tell if it's got the diff locks and whatnot. Does have towbar though.

Stix, can you tell from the VIN what options it has?

you need the option codes from the build sheet, or go to a dealer

is it written off due to water?

it is almost a poverty pack version like mine. It has diff locks, as does mine.

It has steering wheel controls, mine does not.

it does not have airbag suspension

it does not have heated seats

Out of interest how did you pick it has the diff locks but not bags or heated seats? I couldn't see any specific buttons for it looking at the interior pics but then again I'm probably looking for the wrong thing.

yes, from the photos, the ones with airbags have switches in the centre console for the controls, and they have heated seat controls above the stereo, both missing.

yes they all have the same diff lock stuff, I have not seen any in aus without.
