Ravenswood raceway

So I was lurking on Google Maps for new potential campsites, during which I got distracted and started looking for remnants of the old Ravo drag strip as I had heard it is now a housing estate.
So, I'm somewhat pleasantly surprised when I come across this:

So, anyone know what the story with the place nowadays is? Is it privately owned and still used for something? Or just a disused husk of former awesomes.

Also if anyone's got any photos, Vids or stories of racing there back in the day, chuck them up for the nostalgia.

Yes is now used as a runway and shed is hanger, understandably old mate doesn't welcome randoms turning up wanting to take pics etc

Cool, thanks for the post. I didn't know that some of the infrastructure went to collie motorplex. Good to see it go to some good use.
I would love to see it used for some nostalgia type racing or speed week esque shenanigans. But I dare say the track it self is to far gone, let alone the current owners more then likely high levels of disinterest for such things. That and the cost to bring it up to a raceable standard would be arse hurty.

Oh well, guess the old girl is relegated to the history books.

Ha, Ravenswood, I ran my XD a few times there back in 98 & 99..

My old man has my old tool box in his shed, it's got a Genie Exhaust / Ravenswood 98 series sticker on it, I'll have to get a pic next time I'm visiting.

My old man used to take me a few times a year in the late 80's and very early 90's and our neighbour had something to do with the 1st police drag car. I was too young to remember anything except that one time the carpark (lawn i guess?) we were in turned to mud and everyone got stuck. Huge traffic jam and i remember it taking hours to get home with mum cracking the shits.

Guess not much has changed in Perth since!

Ha, ravenswood used to be a regular for me, watching Zappia wrestle his early cars down that strip, awesome. I raced my Capri at a few street meets as well, good memories. I cried a tear at the last meet

Was a regular at hr last two years running in the street and bracket race comp on Sundays. Many a fond memory, zapps rat, the carpark trying to get out.

Was pretty sad going and doing the last Sunday meet there...

I went once around 96 with a mate of a mate who picked me up in his midnight blue LX Hatch. Can remember lying under it to drop the pipes.

I remember going to watch my bros mates race, small block powered jag (will be the wedding car for the Mrs)
And a lj gtr when it was still a 6 banger, still racing, now a 434 Chev and dark blue.
One of my most prominent memories of Ravo, I was about 10 or so, and it was my first encounter with a roto.
A bright yellow, heavily ported, flame belching datto 1000.
I remember seeing it come out to the staging lanes, brapping and farting.
Then it launched, and it was the loudest thing I'd ever heard.
I was mesmerised...

I know huntingdale auto also had a yellow superchaged 13b 1000. Not sure if it's the same one, but it too was an animal.

There was some cool cars there back in the day. The ones that used to stand out for me were:

Sounthide Engine Centre Blown HB torana
Errol Quartermaines Turbo Crossflow HB Torana
Terry Stacy Rotomotion Rx-2
Early incarnations of Zap's Rat (first run into the 7's with a Walt Austin Racing hemi)

Went to Uni with Stu Bond who was the announcer there for many years. Used to cop a bit of grief over the PA now and again, but I did get some cash jobs working in the staging lanes though in the late 80's early 90's /CSH
