School me on Barra drivelines for XD conversion

The plan is some 4.0 turbo combination to go into my XD Falcon. I want to keep it simple and good bang for buck. What is the best combination for me? I want to stick with an auto trans.

1 wrecker I rang wanted $8k delivered for a 75,000km FG conversion package with ZF trans. I like the idea of keeping it mostly standard at least for a start so I can be driving it asap.

There seems to be some cheap-ish ($2500) BA turbo BTR 4speed conversions around. I guess another option is a $100 engine and throw parts at it as well as a TH400 or powerglide trans.

What are the tricks to getting everything needed to get it up and running with the conversion on the electrical side? Is it worth just trying to pick up a stat write off?

You can go barra and it will be awesome but if you want something almost as fast why not think about an AU ohc motor and turbo kit with the gearbox of your choice. Barra goes in but it is a bit of work. A guy on Ford Forums put up a very detailed thread of barra into his XD ute, the pics are no doubt gone because photobucket but all the other details are there.

Fwiw, I bought a BA XR6 turbo that had been hit in the arse. I wrecked the car, kept all I needed for a swap and made $300.

PS the 3.3 conrods are probably worth $200 - as alluded to in the road trip thread- the hot ticket for 4.1 crossflow motors - with reduced Comp height pistons ( if you can find the pistons)

It all comes down to how much power you want to make. Under 350rwkw, buy a wrecked ba. Over 350rwkw, I'd go NA FG motor, mild build and fit a th400
