Depends on your budget.
I went with the cheap cast iron 5.3 with gen 4 rods, open up the ring gaps and add boost. Also using standard ECU and modified harness.
Personally I would go gen 4 rods and cast block

Well have finally made a decison, at this stage will be going ls2 N/A with TH400 & 9inch Diff. Alloy 6 L with a good cam, ported heads & valve springs + nitrous... will be looking at going 403 stroker or 408. But will set it up first with std ls2 + cam etc & nitrous. And looking at running a holley hp efi kit.

Those ve 6 litres with 6l80e would be cheap conversion & seem to pull some decent numbers when you add cam & stally
an easy fix is get a mate to drive in front of you at 60 then 80 then 100 and mark in on your speedo with some liquid paper.
Goal for this rig is to be a 10 second streeter, should run 11s aspo and into the mid to high 10s with the help of some giggle gas

Will be running the rodshop convertion kit, who is using this package. Also whats a good cam package, will look at somthing around 113/114 lobe seperation as i want to run 150 shot of gas at the Track.

Well this build is going to happen, will start looking for parts this week , goal is to have it back on the road with a ls by March. My goals are to drive it to the track & run a 11.50 & drive home N/A & high 10s with some giggle gas. Lets see how close it will go.

Just goals mate, sooner the better, just with work, christmas and going on a cruise early next year. So looking for a l98 @ the moment. Once i find a engine it will be getting the basics. New head gaskets, arp head studs, double valve springs, cam & lifters. Should the oil pump be done? & new rings & bearings. Will be looking at working out a fuel system straight away as well . Fuel system once you get it out of the tank use a Corvette reg/filter - it's cost effective and very popular for swaps, then whatever line and fittings you can squeeze into the 2500 budget![]()

Get on YouTube and search Sloppy mechanics. Have a look at what's in his 6.0 Colorado that made 1000rwhp. It's pretty sketchy but it's a good education of what you can get away with. shows you what factory parts can take. Might help you figure out what really needs doing to do it budget.
Look at Justin's HQ. Stock manifolds with some steam pipe and a $1200 Borg Warner turbo. Guys run into the 8s on similar combos.

Personally I would get off the LS1/2 alloy block shit.
Get yourself a cast iron 5.3 or 4.8, put a s475 borg warner on it, reveresed manifolds and a stock computer on pump 98. That should run you deep into the 10's if not a high 9.
Dont get caught up on the "must have fancy turbo, fancy manifolds must have e85 etc"
My old NA combo compared to the new boosted combo are light years apart, to the point that it turns the tires at 100mph now. Krisr on PF has ridden in both and can give you a fair assessment.
Mother fucker is on the money.....sloppy mechanics are your best point of call.
