So I got the motor on friday - was stinking hot in brissy the whole weekend so progress was slow, these things are heavy! Took me a while to get the stupid thing off the ute (just me )
The sump on these have wings on the ends that had to be sliced off (get a pic later) and I also have to notch the crossmember a little more to clear the crank pulley. engine mounts are just 5L hilux mounts and still working on the gearbox mount,. I will have to make a tiny "clearance" bump in the tunnel for thats but that's no biggy.

Have to go thermo fan though as there is no space for the stock clutch fan setup AND i cant use the factory powersteering pump as it uses the same real estate as the main chassis structure for the upper a arm

Looks like I'm going electric P/S!!

naa not a fan of those - too messy/noisey, I took a toyota yaris rack home with me last night to test fit - looks like it will be fairly easy to use although I will have bump steer....ahwell.

Maybe look at an aftermarket fox body rack? You can get them "choppable" for custom length in non-power/power and I am pretty sure they do LHD/RHD as well

not very easy to get in AUS Xnke, if I was super worried I'd just use a daewoo centre mount rack but i'm lazy

Im pretty lazy at times, id just make a powersteer hilux box or something similar fit. Probably no room though.

Steering rack with electric power column could be all good though. You might be able to mix and match enough parts to keep it column shift auto?

I only have a manual colomn shift lying around so that may be a little hard - was thinking of doing a dash mount style like the old 50's mopars

    That looks pretty cool actually!

I was thinking if you got creative with a cable set up on a stripped down Tarago / Previa van column, that might also be an option. Keeps it Toyota OG.

can you get some of the capacity back into the sump? the L motors need all the help they can get, oil capacity wise. i've seen a few soot up the oil and spin bearings. was likely related to poor maintenance too, i guess.

Yeah I was a little worried about that, I guess I could extend it backwards and forwards a little but not really keen to chop up more of the sump. I may just put a oil cooler on it to get back the lost capacity...

rear mount mostly done, just did a single offsett bush on the stock crossmember. Will need to shorten the drop down rods later when I raise the gearbox up a little further.

scored all this for under $100 -
    yaris electric setup.

and getto ziptied to the trolley jack while I get it sitting right for mounts lol

Interesting. I wonder how difficult it'd be to do something like that on my Lite-Stout.

Making good progress there mate! Does the Yaris electric column need a tricked controller to make it work in another car? I think some of the other ones do from memory.

Your engine choice is perfect for this project I reckon

    thanks dude,

I put a link up on the last page about the conversion, seems toyota stuff works without much input even if it goes into fail safe mode it still provides assistance, I have an abs ecu for the steering which is not as usable but it will still work. ...I think.

If not all i have to do is get a non-abs unit and problem fixed!

You can buy black boxes to trick the Yaris column ECU into working from the UK.

pull the springs and shock out dummy it up sitting on the jack through the range of motion

time spent getting the steering right even if it involves sump mods is well worth it!

also check the steering arms are in the same place for the front disc conversion
