Had a great day in the shed today. Fitted the pedal box which took some adjusting to do but all done. Checked out the wiring on the engine, took the cluster out and pulled it a part to confirm fitting aftermarket gauges wonít b overly hard and fixed the clock for no real reason other than the challenge. It had a broken solder joint in it. Common apparently.

Excellent. I'm really keen to have space to pull apart my rx7, have been following some leads to put myself in a position to do so. Just picked up a bunch of bore gauge/mic etc on sale yesterday for general engine building too.

Cool, it feels good doing hands on stuff when the day job is purely cognitive.

Tailshaft is done, at least until the diff upgrade which will happen some time after rego.

Gearbox crossmember is done except for a bit of grinding and paint. It was done by the worlds worst welder using the worlds worst welder (me using an eBay special) so no photos until I grind back some of the bird shit.

The Cressida centre bearing was a perfect fit! All fits in place nicely now. Next step is to pull the motor out and get the engine bay ready for paint.

No photos, the uploady thing is being a turd.

At 50 cents a throw it is going to take a while to pay it off but I am willing to consider it.

Getting closer to the point where I have to spend some real money on it. A grand worth of speedflow, about the same for gauges and about $5k worth of ecu and associated shit. Thatíll put the brakes on for a while.

Gave the engine bay a primer coat then a coat of motorcoater white. Itís supposed to dry flat like POR15 if you brush it on. It didnít. So I sanded off the worst of it and gave it a coat with a small roller. Iím not too worried because Iím still expecting to be drilling and cutting things in the engine bay, and Iíll eventually send it to Lurch for flares and paint

Took the wiring harness off to get it sorted for the new ECU but I canít get to the knock sensor plug without removing the manifold so Iíll do that with the motor in the car mainly to get workshop space back and because all the lifting lugs are on the manifold.

    Progress. Feels good man.

If it's better than it was yesterday, it's one step closer to being finished.

Only minor things today. Motor back in. Again.
Has to come out again though. Again.
fuck me this thing's been in and out more than Freddy Mercury's prolapse.

So anyway, I pulled the inlet off and found it has two knock sensors, which is a good thing. I may even be able to reverse the manifold to front intake if I use a 70mm spacer but then it'd place the injectors 70mm higher than ideal so I doubt I'll bother.

The brake booster fitting was fucked so ordered new quick release bits from mercedes which was really cheap. Unfortunately the last part that sits in the inlet port is part of the manifold, which is NOT cheap. I dug all the devcon and silicone out of the old one to find this:

Fuck. Thanks whoever used to own this motor. Cunts.
I'll tap it deeper and fit a brass fitting.

Also found having the cross member and engine dangling in the air while the car is on stands is really bad for the subframe/crossmember mounts lol one step forward one step sideways.

Gingerbeer came around (thanks heaps! CA18guy!) which gave me the chance to ask if I could - "No.". Ok, what about...? "No." Oh. What if I... "No."
Ok, can I put two turbos and a supercharger on it with 14in stockies?
    "Yes, that's fine".

    Sweeeet.

Injectors futher from ports is better for power. 70mm shouldn't be terrible and haltech may have adopted the wet wall fuel model adaptronic/oems/motec(?) Run by the time you are ready to tune it anyway so idle/cruise/transients shouldn't be a problem.

So one of the mandatory tasks is to update the solid biscuit lid front brakes with vented biscuit lid front brakes. To do this I have some later calipers from a 560sel and w116 discs. The hubs needed to hold it all together from a w114 finally arrived after 3 months of ďwhere the fuck is itĒ emails and phone calls to a guy in western Victoria.

Problem now is for some reason the inner bearing sits in too far by about 3 or 4mm and puts the rotor too far in. I need to work out how to shim the inner race out a bit.

Is the outer bearing too far inboard too?
"Where can we get hold of a Vincent Black Shadow?" "Whats that?" "A fantastic bike," I said. "The new model is something like two thousand cubic inches, developing two hundred brake-horsepower at four thousand revolutions per minute on a magnesium frame with two styrofoam seats and a total curb weight of exactly two hundred pounds."

Have ordered some rotors to try so thatís on hold.

Decided to weld the bottom parts of the mounts to the crossmember on some 4mm plate. Also notched the crossmember for a bit of extra clearance. All went well used the stick welder for all this and it did a much better job than the eBay mig.
