It was an odd thing to know - how did you figure that one out? And what engine is it?

"Where can we get hold of a Vincent Black Shadow?" "Whats that?" "A fantastic bike," I said. "The new model is something like two thousand cubic inches, developing two hundred brake-horsepower at four thousand revolutions per minute on a magnesium frame with two styrofoam seats and a total curb weight of exactly two hundred pounds."

    I have the 4.3L
Itís enough to get it going as I already have it here. The larger versions are a direct swap.

Ahhh, looking at the wiki, that makes sense. Thought it might have been one of the older motors. Although - what's the bellhousing compatability like across the merc v8s?

Not entirely sure. I think the early single cam M117 was different. Could be wrong tho.

yep because complex dry sumped engines with less power than the M113 are the way to go

Iíd do a 6.3 from a C/E/S63, or a v12 from an S class, or any given M113. I like the idea of big cubes and I like the idea of period correct single cam v8 but Iíd need to be convinced it can make decent power by todayís standards and I donít think thatís the case.
Most likely scenario is the 4.3 to start with and then save my pennies for a better option.

    I know fuckall about Mercs.

But Wikipedia tells me the 280S had 140hp when it was new.

Wikipedia also tells me that the 4.3L M113 made 275hp.

So with a free exhaust it's probably going to make double what the original motor in the car made.

I think that outta be enough for a late 60's boat, no?

The motor is the easy part. Thereís an awful lot more that will need to be sorted out long before any wick could be turned up!

So the only person that has a crossfire gearbox wants near $2k for it when they are $300 in the US.
When the time comes Iíll see if I can get one sent over rather than buying locally lol

There's a jeep/Chrysler wrecker at Hervey Bay that may have one. They're not particularly cheap but still often work out cheaper than importing one.

Would have to be a lot more than that surely? That's race gearbox weights.

Yep! They gave me $2k off a 6.1 hemi when I told them I was putting it in a Valiant. Was actually cheaper than importing from the US at the time.
