So I get home and after some searching for the key, I have a look over it. It has boot floor rust. They all have boot floor rust. Thatís how they are. Rest of the car though is completely rust free! Score. Even has the original radio wooden face plate. Anyone know what the fuck the thing on the door is??
Glove box was full of old cassettes but no books sadly. Seems to like the same music over and over.
I put a battery on and dunked the fuel hose in some fresh petrol, and after cleaning the points it fired first go!
It runs nicely and even moves under its own power, though it seems the rear right hand brake caliber works, but none of the rest do lol

In the next week or so Iíll pull the carpet and give it a wash down and see what itís really like.

I need to put a light down the fuel filler and see how rusty the tank is. lit match is the right tool, right?

Itís less rusty than my slc...

Get one of those cheap endoscopes and jam it up the jacking points.

Make sure theyíre solid and welded to the body before lifting it with cars jack.

Dry Ice that sound deadener up and off lest there be gnarly rust holes in the floor under it. it'll also drop the undercoating that isn't well adhered too, where rust often hides.

Yeah, washin' out the dirt/vacuuming up the clods will help assess the rust too. is that left front wheel arch mashed up or just dirty? Can't really tell in the photo, other than it just looks rough.

There are a stack of these down at the local yard, maybe i should pick one up.

yeah so it has a few nasty surprises. Stix is the Rust Whisperer. It had an insane amount of dirt in the sills! There's also a major crack in the inner guard. Seems an odd place to crack!
I took 15 mins today to hose it down and vacuum it out (and throw out all the ratty carpet etc).

In the short term, mechanically it needs calipers rebuilt, a brake booster, probably a master cylinder and a rocker cover gasket. Rust wise other than the boot, both inner wheel arch sills need repair (both are solid, just the front part gone!) and I'm a bit sus on one patch of floor.

The thing has a billion years of farm dirt and grease under it! Photos don't do it justice. It looks like it was excavated from a flood plain prior to being put in the farm shed.Click image for larger version.

In other words, it's not that bad for a 45 year old car that's sat in a field for who knows how long.
