I've been trying to work out if anyone ever achieved the holy grail and made a kit to modify a car that is now rare and collectible to look like one that is worse.

The best effort I can find is the MX5 Z3 kit.

I think 'unholy abomination' describes that one pretty much perfectly.

How you know so much about so many shitboxes that no-one gives a fragment of a fuck about beats the shit out of me.
"Where can we get hold of a Vincent Black Shadow?" "Whats that?" "A fantastic bike," I said. "The new model is something like two thousand cubic inches, developing two hundred brake-horsepower at four thousand revolutions per minute on a magnesium frame with two styrofoam seats and a total curb weight of exactly two hundred pounds."

This rejigged a memory - the Bond movie 'Live & Let Die' featured a Corvorado:

The Buforis, when they were making them here, were based on a VW Beetle floorpan (think they used a Holden V6 in them at some point too).

I'm fucked in the head, what can I say? Some of stories around some of these cars are rather interesting.

Live and Let Die also featured a Dunham Coaches Cadillac pimpmobile.

Iirc Bufori went to their own design chassis when Malaysia bought them out.

there used to be a whole world of Malaysian car restorers around the RAAF base at Butterworth, they'd specialise in old Jags and Triumph's for Australian servicemen and get flown back to Australia completely restored (and 1/5th the price of getting it done in locally)

There was a corvette replica based on a one tonner chassis. Proportions were all wrong but a few were sold because real corvettes were expensive

When the real corvettes became more affordable the replicas disappeared

Not so much a "crafted on top of another car" type of abortion.
But any time I look at this rectum on wheels. I can't help but think of the human centipede..

'Eliica' looks quite Citroen DS influenced?

Possibly the original, and inspiration behind, the 6-wheeler supercars? :

I'll see your eight wheels, etc...

This had 11, (yes, 11) and allegedly used to be related to a Citroen DS...
