5 years Landy free... 1990 Range Rover v8

Spotted this on Facebook marketplace, covered in tyre brand stickers, $600 and a 4hr round trip to pick it up.

Dragged the family down to Goolwa, had a look, old mate rattled off all the new bits on it, took it for a spin, wife rolled her eyes and I handed over the cash. It made the 2hr trip home on a 35deg day with a non working temp gauge and used about 20l for 150km which was pretty good.

Its 1990 Range rover vogue, 3.9l v8 efi with a 4sp auto. Pretty much stock except an arb rear bar (all rangies seem to have one) and some 31" all terrains. Aircon works and so far the only major thing is the brake mc resi leaks through the grommet.

Plan is for night/day runs and 4wd park trips with dad and mates. My d40 will continue to get fitted out for long range stuff. Maybe ute chop it and get into some sort of 4wd comp stuff later on.

Dad and I both love driving it, enough grunt, sounds tits with a 2.25 inch twin system and just soaks up the bumps.

Did a small run with a mate in his gu, the auto just makes it awesome off road and it barely grounded out anywhere.

Mods wise Im thinking 30mm spring spacers (no touring so no need for heavy springs) and longer shocks and 32" muddies. Maybe a tube front bar and a custom snorkel.

The rangie v8 does make a wonderful noise, and a little bit of power as a byproduct

I'm surprised you haven't hooked up on those rear mufflers though

Yeah the mufflers need a good tuck. One has already been reshaped.

First-low up a solid hill sounds bloody great.

Old rovers aint getting any cheaper...... just do it.

Its not like they are complicated or hard to fix, not compared to anything modern anyway.

Cleaned up the front end and picked up a cheap winch. Got a bid on a arb front bar on ebay which I'll convert to hold the winch otherwise it'll be a custom tube winch bar.

These things are life long affliction.

I've still got my 88 with twin lockers and a bent chassis.

Can't bring myself to get rid of it

Previous owner owns Goolwa tyres and mobility (so while getting some new kuhmos you can browse their range of mobilty scooters).

Why would you sell it? haha

Turbo510, What's your thoughts on longer shocks and spring spacers only (either poly or the lra ones)? This wont have any weight in it so I dont see the need for harder springs. Just want the extra clearance.

I've never used spacers on any of my RR's or Disco 1's. I've always run the tallest off the shelf Kings with bilsteins.

Rides heaps better than the stock stuff and articulates really well. Have had Simex 33's on it in the past with no clearance issues.

Rear doors are cut as well as the arches with the flares though.

$65 arb bar and a $200 supercentre winch. The winch mount was pretty simple to build, just had to notch bottom part to fit the drum.

Just needs a blast and paint, then bolt her on and she's ready for some wheeling.

    Awesome.

This is pretty much how I feel about them and mostly why I haven't bought one or 6 yet.

You need to be careful, they multiply.

At one stage I had two disco 1's, three RR Classics and a two door RR.

Now I only have the one 88 RR left. It's stashed up at a mates farm and I try not to think about it

I'll probably just save up for some kings and some sort of longer shocks. Cheers.
