how the fuck do I get a busted car from Myrtleford to Melbourne this weekend?

Nopics went away to Falls Creek for a training thing this week. Volvo broke down on the way there... from what was described I'm assuming some electrical fault (ABS, Aircon, battery warning, etc).

I'm expecting noone will be open on the weekend in a country town and won't on Monday either... And even then wouldn't be able to source parts for a while...

RACV wouldn't tow it short of $1500.
I'm in Melbourne with two kids and a car that doesn't have a tow hitch (or a trailer for that matter).
Usual mechanic down here wouldn't be able to look at it for about 3 weeks either...

Options? (considering I'm not on PF-baller income)

Could be just the battery if it's lucky. (but it's a 15 year old euro with 270000 on the clock...).
RACV guy did attend, apparently (translated via female) dx'd a dead cell in the battery. Gave it some chargeand they managed to drive it back to Myrtleford. But voltage was dropping if any accessories were on, he reckoned they'd only make it an hour down the road with a new battery.

Thanks Don for the offer, would only work if it's a 5 seater though...

I don't know if this would help, but I'm at Stanley (~30km from Myrtleford).
I can probably organise a car trailer or a battery & get it up to my place if you want safe storage while you sort your transport to Melbourne.
Anyway, shoot me a pm if I can be of any use.

Take another car with a good charging system out to escort the Volvo home. Swap the good battery into the Volvo, the flat battery into the second car, then jump start the second car from the Volvo. Drive them both home. The flat battery will charge while the good battery goes flat. Drive as far as you can on the good battery in the Volvo, then swap the batteries again and repeat the process until you are home.

Did exactly this all the way from Adelaide to Melbourne many years ago in convoy with my brother and his HX Panel Van with the dead alternator.

What model year Volvo? The symptoms could be the CEM when the plug comes loose it throws a wobbly. Passenger footwell wriggle all the plugs and make sure they are seated properly.

Thanks, have passed on that info. I did have the passenger side carpet out recently due to it flooding the footwell (I think from a drain blockage). Maybe shoving it back in has loosened a plug?

Driver and passenger getting a lift back today, car staying to get looked at by the local mechanic this week

@Milkman Don, that rain was unreal, wasn`t it heheh.

Gimme a PM if you need to tow it back next weekend, you pay for fuel, trailer hire and snacks, I'm happy to drive up in the Landcruiser.
