    Datsun 1200 ute X R35 GTR

So after many attempts of doing things, I am finally in the area in ability and equipment where I can build this to in my mind a level that is required for something so stupid.

It took me a few years but I have sourced a clean straight and rust free datsun 1200 ute shell, with pretty much all the parts there, most that I will not need. Originally I was going to use a 30/26, power glide combo with the 4wd, I even cut and shut a GTR sump to move the diff forward and move the whole engine back about 160mm or so. I measured everything and it would fit, I mean physically the engine would not poke out the bonnet and the diff was in the correct location in relation to the front wheel arches etc.

Anyway then I was cruising pickles last Wednesday and there were 2 crashed 35 gtrs, so I bid on them, first one was a bit too expensive so I got the 2nd one. I am getting it shipped from NSW, land of the uleh it seems.

So to cut a long story short I had to pick wheel sizes, I think I have gone 18x10 and now I bought susprog 3d, so if anyone is a bit of an expert I will give that a crack and see where I can get some suspension points sorted out. From there I will model the entire car. At this point I think it is foolish for me to even think that I would have the time to physically build the car, I think I will get all the parts CNC machined in the workshop, then I will create a chassis jib much like those ones you see for the offroad cars where they use laser cut steel plates everywhere as jigs for all the tubes and I will pay someone to do the bulk of the chassis work.

anyway this is where I am up to, I would say updates are slow as i worked an average of about 71 hours a week last year. But we will see how we go.

About 32k once you pay all the charges, the other went for 39k

I'm hoping it is just a wrap cos it is matte. Also come with Nismo option chain with cross on rear vision mirror so we will see if it is still there when it gets to Adelaide.

Fuck knows looks like it had some sort of fire around where the battery is so doesn't start but seems no crash visible from the photos, looks either the head light or battery went up

That's why it is unknown condition, for me I would hope motor isn't blown or something but if it is I'll pull it down and scan the block anyways.

    Whoa. Serious car.

I'm so glad those auctions are now online.

I remember walking through the 8 metal detectors to get in and still felt intimidated.

Did the 1200 cost less than 32 grand? Wouldn't you just use all of the 35 suspension as is and copy the mounts over to the ute? Did the Utes have a chassis? Will the engine and transaxle fit within the wheelbase of that jigger? (EDIT: yep should fit fine, should only need to shorten the shafts by 200mm. you can cut and glue carbon fibre tailsahfts right?)

    Should chirp second anyway

    Interesting project!

The VIN for the R35 on the listing looks very odd to me. All those zeros...

Did you confirm that it's all legit?

Google tells me this is what an R35 VIN should look like.

Jaguar XJR, Freelander 2 HSE, Jaguar XKR

It is a 2008 so import, it had a pic of it up when it was for sale with compliance in like 2012 and was a 2008 car.

I mean who cares it is a stat anyway it is only good for parts.

Car will be full tube chassis so the 1200 will only be a shell sitting on top. I'm just thinking of a fancy way to do the rear stays so it doesn't look retarded.

All suspension will be custom I won't use any of the arms or any of the uprights etc that be all custom.

are you planning a hard lid style of cover for the tub to cover up all the tubes, diff's, uprights etc? or is hiding the engineering not the intent of this build?

Rust is lighter than carbon fibre.

Nah I don't use any of the drive shafts and all new Sus geometry and arms so really you can make it any width, currently I have the wheels about 100mm out the guards

I will scan the guards at the end and make carbon flares for it but that is right at the end

Good lordy! I like where this is going!
    1990 E30 BMW 318is - In progress!
1974 KE25 Corolla Coupe - So much rust...
1955 Matchless G9 - On the road and loving it!
1954 Matchless G80 - Because the one above runs too well so I need something more broken...
And a fucking 1962 Rover... Because that makes sense

So all I wanted it 1000hp and it based loosely on circuit not drag, this way I can have something never done before, be quick at the drags, 1000m, burnouts, "circuit" etc like you could do any event without being totally shit at all of them except 1.

Also if I have the time i can literally design the whole thing piece of piss, I do this stuff for industrial equipment this is just a little bit different. Also I can probably write some off on tax in r and d if I am smart.
