The disappointing thing about the current generation car enthusiasts, is that it's all about taking pics of the thing, and fitting a Thule roof rack to it.

Gone are the days of monitoring the glitter in the sump oil, and finding another broken gizmo scotch locked into the ECU harness. Kids these days don't deserve the inflated prices they sell them for.

Current generation car enthusiasts have no interest in mechanical work and the ones that do, take it to a workshop. Its all about cosmetic shit.

The days where young kids would be pulling engines out on the street outside their parents houses are gone.

P plate laws about power and mods have probably done a lot to curb interest. I remember tooling around with turbo rx7s and a liberty RS as a young fella and fuck they were fun.

Even dudes with ET pulsars and starlets were having an awesome time with boost. Can't mess with any of that stuff any more so they lose interest (and new cars are expensive/difficult to mod now with electronic everything)

I know - my point was that it's not worth a lot because it's such an excellent car against today's standards but because of it's desirability.

    What is it with pf threads these days? They seem to arrive at one of three conclusions;

    1. The OP is an idiot with friends who are also idiots
    2. Kids these days
    3. Rdyno and Fondles are idiots and something should be done about them

This has turned into a "Kids these Days" thread.

Anyway I'd like to buy a toy car this year but Supras are off the list because they are too heavy and too expensive. But mainly too expensive.

Buy a Soarer then. Still heavy but the povo pack 2JZ version isn't too bad.

Soarer too big as well. As much as I do like 1jz/2jz. And harder for cheap performance parts - I'm think small 2 door like 180sx/200sx/fc rx7 or even an early wrx.

    Or maybe this cheap AE86

You know a supra weighs around 1440kg? Compare that with a GTR, EVO, eben a MKIV Golf!

My real reason is that they are too expensive. I'm just using the size and weight as an excuse so I don't seem like a tight arse!

But something closer to 1000Kg than 1500Kg is better for my intended application (weekend thrashing around the hills) as it'll be easier on tyres, brakes etc.

Otherwise I'd get a JZA70 for cool wedges styling, cheap jz'dness and general indestructibility.

That's enough about me, back to overpriced 1990s jap hero cars.

Look hard enough and there are are still a few affordable S14's that haven't been raoed by flatbrimmed dorifto swede cunts.

With the change in the P plate rules to make them legal now, prices went up for both cars and parts as more are being parked at high speed into gutters, trees and other bits of street furniture.

Why werent you buying a couple years ago at "normal" pricing then? Cos at worst thats all thats gonna happen - returning to previous pricing

When the mining boom ended I dont recall modified HSVs and SSs flooding the market at fire sale pricing in WA

Because the interest rates are still low. Joe blogs can afford the repayments for his HSV or SS as a regular city plumber. Rates go up and all of a sudden joe blogs on a plumbers salary cant afford his toys and mortgage no more.

Sydney corner scales are as accurate as Sydney dynos. It seems cars gain a lot of weight and lose a lot of power when they cross the border.

    Yea thats a fair comment

Interest rates raising to the point of "tough times" category is a while off yet anyway

I'd be dubious if they managed this but even still the 718 is 200kg heavier than the 86

    Mine was 1470kgs

Full cage, race seats, no air-conditioning at all, no heater box, no stereo, no door cards. But a dump weighbridge. And a full tank. Edit: my cage was 75kgs before going in.

2JZ Soarer is the answer to a question nobody asked - none of the performance of the 1JZs with none of the lux and features of the 1UZs.... yet in the current market you’ll still pay the same as either...

They're a good thing if you want to avoid the "lux and features" (and the associated problems) of the 1UZs. The lack of performance I'll concede is a bit of a problem. But fixable.
