    I found another bike...

But I had to pay for this one, not a lot, but something.

So I caught up with a friend the other day, and as we were walking to lunch, we started talking Motorbikes, and what we both ride, I still had my CBR250RR at this point, but said I'm selling it soon.
We kept walking and I spotted a nice black BMW on the street, and I said those things are epicly awesome.
He said, well, I have a mate who's selling one cheap, want the details?

    I wasn't looking for a BMW.
My plan was to spend 2-3 grand on a nice Japanese bike to Cafe up over the next few months while I get my fulls.

Thinking back to the time for the CBR, I did really enjoy my time working on it in the garage.
I had tunes playing, I was discovering how easy bikes are to work on, my son would pop in and I'd show him a thing or two, and it was good man time.

    But this was a unicorn.
    This was the top dog.
    This was a litre bike.
    A relatively new Litre bike.
    That had 200 horsepower.
That out drags a Bugatti Veyron on the 1/4 mile.
That does 0-250km/h in the same time my car gets to 100.

I didn't really think I'd be able to get something like this so soon, but the chance came up, and it's one of those opportunities that if I didn't grab, I'd be wondering for a long long time what if.

    So here it is:

    My new BMW S1000RR.

It's not registered, it has a couple of issues, but it runs. It has all the good bits, and it's an S1000RR.
    More specs.
It's a May 2010 build, (yes one of the early ones) Which is a little concerning, but knowing how many are around, and how often they are pushed at the California Superbike School around the world, means they can survive. It has 26odd thousand KMs on it, and has been serviced well.

I checked it out twice and then did all the research, I called the dealer who sold it, their service records matched, it had all the recalls applied, and everything sounded legit.
It's been in storage for about a year, so the brakes are pushing air and a little rusty, the chain is dirty and has a touch of rust, tyres are hard, but otherwise it's all good.

I jumped it the first night and it started straight up and sounded solid, put it on a stand and went through the gears with the wheels spinning and everything was in order.

It has had a drop at Eastern Creek, so has new fairings, but it was a lowside so nothing was bent.

    Full Akra exhaust.

    Everything works.

And today my friend managed to loan a ute, so it's home. And sleeping in bed.
    Waiting for my TLC.

As we dropped it home, my friend closed the tray of the ute, and what do I see:

    It's Dales ute
    Hi Dale.
    Thanks Dale

And big thanks to Brasher too

    Progress:

Same same. 20 years of technology, 4x the engine size, and 5 times the power.
    Wish me luck.

Nice. I forget BMW did superbikes, so used to seeing the adventure and big tourers.

Cheapest I see advertised is like $10k. People tend to avoid the early ones, so the 2012 onwards are usually ~$14k

It really was an offer I couldn't refuse. I paid $1000 more than what I sold the CBR250RR for.

Based on what I read last night, it's got 4 power delivery modes that use a lean sensor to limit the throttle. I'm not a bike guy so I don't know if this is something common.

ABS and DTC, with 4 modes,

Rain (smooth throttle, no wheelies and max traction and max 60% TPS)
Sport (smooth throttle, no wheelies max traction and 100%TPS)
Race (fast throttle, very little wheelies, some skids on corner exit and 100%TPS)
Slick (fastest throttle, 5 second wheelies, big skids and 110% TPS*)

I think I'll stay in rain mode for a while. (it's more like a 600)

Very nice upgrade. 1k more than the CBR is a no brainer. Rode a 2016 RR a while ago was sublime. QS was seamless blipper on downshift was one of the highlights.
    Enjoy.

Good pick up, you will shit yourself. Don't stack it bro!

Not sure how it effects other bikes but I know the latest Yamaha's don't like being run on the stand (eg wheels turning) as it throws an engine code/light for the traction control. No issues after running it up?

Hot bike, even with the wonky assymetric styling.
Wierd request - but can you measure from the rear axle to the swingarm pivot for me?
"Where can we get hold of a Vincent Black Shadow?" "Whats that?" "A fantastic bike," I said. "The new model is something like two thousand cubic inches, developing two hundred brake-horsepower at four thousand revolutions per minute on a magnesium frame with two styrofoam seats and a total curb weight of exactly two hundred pounds."

    Sure, can do this tonight.

So the brakes are dead, front level just pumps air, I'm hoping a bleed will solve it, but maybe a new master (or rebuild)

Otherwise tyres are a bit hard, chains a touch rusty and may need an oil change.
    Kids stuff really.

    I really like these things.
Oil change, full lube + fix brakes then skid that old tyre!

    Thatís a solid pickup.

Hard to believe the first s1000rr was released nearly 10 years ago. They were probably the ones that pushed the off the shelf 1000s to get around the rider aids because in 09 what else had all that stuff??

    Ps. Skid the tyre

The first time you really crack the throttle on this thing there will be some poo and some sex wee, not necessarily in that order.

Excellent score mate. Big BIG upgrade from the baby RR.

I still get that sensation on my Daytona, so this thing with another 50% or so of engine will be next level poo and sex wee excitement.

At least you should be going fast enough to not even know you're dead if it all turns to a heap of shit and feathers.

    Excellent pickup.

Gave her the first wash yesterday:

I took my time. Carefully caressing her curves.
Overall she's clean, she has a few dirty spots here and there, and some scratches on the rear, but the body and frames are mint.

Starting to examine what's actually on this bike...

    These aren't standard right:

GB Racing is good gear so happy with that, probably would have fitted these myself.

Not sure of the brand of the levers but they feel solid and well made

I'm not in love with this carbon cover, but I guess it protects the top triple a bit.

GB spools, make it easy to lift.

my pretty, touched up some of the tiny paint chips, once I'm done she'll look better than new.
