Adding to the above...and the nopics Mazda 2 hatch is a 2009 model and the only thing that's been replaced is a battery and tyres? Been the most reliable car we've had by a long margin.

IMO the Holden brand name has been totally eroded away by selling rebadged imported cheap shitboxes. The media has been panning them since forever for shitty build quality (partially deserved) so now people think Holden = poorly built cheap cars. Similar to how people used to think of Hyundai but now Hyundai have moved up in the public perception. Holden haven't.

It makes no sense import a shitbox to rebadge and sell at the bottom of the market, a similar OS manufacturer can supply a better car for less money. Besides there's no money to be made at the bottom of any market unless you're able/prepared to sell 11ty billion units for a 0.5% profit, but we're talking about cars here not $10 pedestal fans.

The CX5 and Ranger are both perceived as being modern and good quality. They're nice places to be and a bit upmarket. Holden doesn't have a car that fits that description.

Like I said, Holden's problem always has been the fact that it is a GM division. When you look at the whole GM story you see the same issues time and time again. They only worry about the bottom line without watching the details. And use other divisions to prop up the core, Chevrolet and Cadillac. To the point they willingly run other divisions to the ground and sell them off in the hope to keep the whole lot afloat. I would expect Holden to be sold off in future.

Apart from the first maybe 20 years, I don't think Holden were ever anything more than poorly built cheap cars. Dad had them & Falcons as company cars from the early 70's, they'd already fallen behind the Japanese in terms of quality by then. The Japanese cars were undoubtedly weaker, more prone to rust, mostly down on performance & road-feel & handling; but they didn't fall apart as often, the rear-vision mirror didn't fall off in your lap (although from memory that was Falcon more than Kingswood).
Australia's image of the Holden, then Kingswood, then Commodore as any sort of decent quality has been incorrect for longer than it has been correct.

So many people, myself included, DIDN'T buy a Commodore because of childhood experiences growing up in Dad's Crap Commodore.
The lure of the V8, and the concept of it going away if I didn't support it, was the only reason I dragged my arse down to the Holden dealer to look at a VF, and was blown away by something that wasn't from 1997.
Turns out that the engineering under the VE was ridiculously good for what it cost to build one, but the 1997 spec interior meant nobody who got one as a rental was going to buy one unless they specifically wanted a large RWD V8 & just put-up with the outdated everything-else.

Anyhoo ... the point of all this rant is that the image has been way bigger than the reality for decades, regardless of selling Daewoos ... I mean they sold Isuzus in the 70's, then Camiras - did anyone ever see a Gemini even brand-new without blue smoke coming out the back? And now that image has been stripped away, all that shit product is no help to them at all.
Soft roaders represent an excellent compromise between the needs of the hardcore 4x4 user and the convenience of a city hatchback. Its clear to see why they have become so popular in todays society.

Autonomous cars are going to make the badge on the front largely irrelevant for everyone except hard core fossil fuel lovers.

Better to kill off Holden now.

Less Mazda love/hate more ZB hate please. I spend 12 to 14 hours a day on the roads around Sydney and within 300ks or so of it and have seen 1 ZB so far.
Probably 1 stinger every other day and 30 Mustangs an hour.
Only seen 1 Equipox for that matter as well. Id see 2 or 3 LDV T60 Dual cabs a day also so well done Holden on your Commodore thing being smashed by a chinese ute.

I thought they fucked off the ford platform when designing the 3rd gen 3 ?

Iím yet to see a ZB; thought Iíd seen one the other day, but it was a Hyundai Elantra.
Those Chinese utes are like $12k on the road, and are bought by either the same sort of person who bought an X2 Excel, or companies for employees that are fairly easy to replace.

Bluerx7 tells it like it is, you guys have no idea of what is going on behind the scenes in Mazda, motors, gearboxes etc every day. I will give them one thing, no arguing, get it fixed and back to the owner seems to be the policy.

Knew someone who's 6 month old Mazda 3 caught fire after they pulled over at a roadside fruit stand.

He was putting it through insurance, but I told him to go through Mazda.

Relevant - after 3-4 months on sale, I saw the first ZB on the road today!
    Well, parked.
And it was red, the only colour they sell.

It was a base model, I don't see why the comment above or on a prior page about the base models being ugly compared to any medium-large base-model; base Mazda6 & Mondeo wheels look undersized too.

12 months later Holden go's broke, gay vegan uni kids running the show take zero responsibility and blame it on middle australia being racist homophobes, many articles are written agreeing with them, and they all move onto to the next household name giant company and begin the process of fucking that up too.

They would still be the number one brand in this country if instead of trying to shift focus to "new markets" they just got the biggest stinkiest ute they could get out of the USA and ran a don draper tv add. Do you like utes, and fishing, and chicks? This ute is 16 times bigger than the last ute, you can put 1600 fishing rods in the back and drive over native turtle nests to get to the beach and fish! Fish love this ute, chicks love dudes who have this ute. Beer! Only fags hate this ute, don't be a fag, buy the ute!

Aye, and they've probably been begging HO to be allowed to do this for decades ... which is why HSV are doing it, but then HSV are hand-modifying them to make them RHD & hence they're all going to be at least $30k-$40k overpriced like the Camaro.
