AUDI SUV q7 thingos' School me

    https://www.carsales.com.au/dealer/d...16112200/?Cr=0

what are the things to look out for on these things?

    Gotta find a replacement for a v8 xc90.

Will one of these (or similar) make me wanna slit my wrists?

looking for v8, 7 seats, nice interior, comfy ride, ground clearance, able to tow a 500kg tinny/ trailer, connectivity ...

What other cars could/should I consider.

    Cheers cunts.

There's also a big fat Benz shitbox, GLS, performs the same role (ML is too small to fit 7 seats - dunno if they do).
Evoque is a jacked-up 2L hatchback, do they really come in 7st form? I think in Rover-land you're looking at one of the bigger Disco's.

Soft roaders represent an excellent compromise between the needs of the hardcore 4x4 user and the convenience of a city hatchback. Its clear to see why they have become so popular in todays society.

Q7 = Touareg = Cayenne, just with more seats than them.

Tow anything with the TDV6 (3.5T) so TDV8 will tow everything x 2.

This. Just like every other heavy automatic + nopics. Although you'll only spend $3k on brakes if you pay the dealer to do it or it has fancy Brembos.

We had a Q7 V6 TDI and it was the longest owned car which have had (4yrs).

As a family car and freeway cruiser - simply epic.

For a reference to maintenance costs - our mileage was 70% Sydney hectic traffic and 30% freeway:
Rotors+pads front and back - $1,536 pad light came on around 55,000km but it's BS so we drove until 70,000km out of them. The pads were just on their last legs at that point.
Small service - 450 (non Audi)
Larger service - 950 (non Audi)
Tyres (4) - 950 - we only switched once i think around the 55,000km mark.
Manifold Actuator (carbon) - $3,000 - that happened around 85,000km and it's a common thing. It doesn't hurt performance or the motor but it chucks a CEL.

I have driven the previous model V8 TDI and it was noticeably quicker than the V6 TDI model but by today's standards it won't register as anything awesome.

That car you linked, check what year is written on the registration paper because that is a 2011 build but advertised as a 2012 because of the compliance date. What matters is what is on the registration paper.

$115k new i would put it at a dealer around $40k assuming it's a 2012 year on the rego paper.

Car shopping in June i saw base level 2017s for 78k.

So you are looking at a 5yr gap of 30k (6k/yr) which shows the 2012 is priced to high. Make it 40k and the comparison starts to stack up a bit better.

Fuck me - The service costs on these things! Just so you can drive a 2nd hand Audi? Surely a Prado would be a better tool for the job?

    Better for the job? Yes.
    Nicer place to be? No.
Not saying a Prado isn't a nice car, but they're pretty basic compared to the Audi.
And in all seriousness, have you priced dealer servicing for a late model Toyota lately? Jesus weeps, it's not far off Euro pricing!

    Thanks for the replies chaps.

I'll get her to sit in one and go from there.

There is something about a twin turbo v8 Porsche.... I know it will kill me $$$$ wise, but it could be awesome.

Aren’t Cayennes priced more like an Audi than a 911 on the used market?
And do they actually cost that much more to service? I thought one or two PF’ers had quoted their servicing-costs in the past, and they were no worse than a diesel Landbruiser ... ?

I mean you’re prolly right ... but I wouldn’t write it off without investimigation, if you can be interested in one!

we went the sq5 instead after having the tow-rag.

The Q5 S-line 3.0TD is a really nice car but does not get you to the 7 seat requirement and it also rules out the VW.

In saying that i also like the new Volvo XC90s more than all of them so I may be damaged.

Fuck me you only paid 800 for rotors and pads fitted? I thought i got a good deal lol!

Servicing i cant recall why it was so expensive as the RS5 for a minor was 330 including air filters. Maybe they did pollen filters in the service.

I know they did spark plugs, brake fluid and coolant on the more expensive service. I cant recall what else was done in that service though.

The 3k for the manifold actuator was done at Audi so that's never gunna be a cheap option lol.

SUV=not cheap to service. The 75k service for my thing is around $1000 at the dealer and it's a prehistoric Mitsubishi, you have to pull the top of the engine apart to do the valve clearences. I don't want to know what the 105k service is going to be since it's the BIG one.

Merc is a good thing. Interiors hold up alot better than the Audi's and more space inside.

    Gl500 is what I have, 5.5 285kw, 500nm, 7 speed. Proper 4wd. The ESC has tow assist.

Gl450 if you want a diesel.

Brakes and rotors are pricey, last 100,000kms though

Air shocks are now available aftermarket now (rather than $800 a corner supply only , about $400.

Power steering reservoir leaks into steering. Cheap and easy fix.

We've done 100km+ including towing race cars, campertrailers off road, up the beach, over dunes. It goes anywhere my mates landcruiser goes. AVG fuel (nopics) last 35000kms which is stop start traffic is 14.5l/100. 0-100 6.5 secs.

Will replace it with another one with lower Kms when this one costs me money.

Edit: when you test drive, put suspension in sport. Especially on the street, is way better than soft imo

Chow stuff lasts as long as audi shit, I would say longer

Kind of like the 950 dollar tyres audi tryto sell you that you can buy for 450 at the tyre joint

I must admit mine has had a hard lyf and is slowely dieing now (ps leak some water hose splits general crap) possibly due to non audi oil lol or maybe 300k of towing and shit

Last set I bough were goodride $170 a throw for 20x275

Have run the pirelli, Bridgestone and cooper all terain when doing Frazer and shit

Pirelli/Bridgestone were much quieter and wore out at 25k
    Goodride 40k
    Dry grip same as goodride
Wet low speed the Bridgestone was best/goodride second and pirelli scary as fuck ( so not sure of paying 5-600 for a tyre makes your family safer)

Iirony of audi/4wd wankers is 80% of the kunts are rolling around on BFF Allterains with their family 90% of the time on normal roads.

Think of the children argument doesn’t translate to those 4wds lol

I have this same discussion with my family once a month cause my bros car is on lease and he is a “must have audi do everything wanker cause their shit don’t stink” . The old argument of the $950 tyre is better because audi says so is pretty funny
