There was an accident 3 or 4 days ago where someone bogged in fesh-fesh was struck by one of the SxS things and he didn't stop, looks like competitors are fair game!

Truck attrition has been brutal, here's a bit from yesterday.

Nasser is victor outright, bar some disaster in the next couple of days.

Toby has taken over the lead today, Brabec mechanicaled early in the stage and out, Walkner won the stage Quintinalla 2nd and 2nd overall, Sunderland 4th. Still anyone's race between those 4, although not many opportunities to claw back time tomorrow with the starting procedure, where they'll be within sight of each other most of the time.

If TP wins, expect that scaphoid might prompt retirement. Hinted in an an interview with Coronel his bike days are drawing to a close, can't imagine there enough sponsorship locally to get a few mill for a car campaign though.

Thanks for the updates on the ground. Seems a pretty epic ride by Price. Just consistent each stage. Must have put some sort of throttle stop on it as there is footage of him dropping his right hand off the bars to shake out his wrist and it doesnt seem to slow down at all. Bad luck for Brabec. He was looking impressive. Will be an interesting few days on the bikes. Hope his wrist hangs together as it does seem to be getting worse. Seems he starts the stages quickly and fades towards the end.

Seems nothing other than a major mechanical will stop The dune expert Nasser. Has the terrain been a bit one dimensional this year being just in Peru?

Great to see Price in the lead. I just hope the wrist holds in there for another two stages.

Al Attiyah just keeps on going. Its really his to lose now in the cars section despite Loeb winning another stage.

There's an Aus guy riding in the bikes called Ben Young. Edo and I did a motorbike trip from Paris to Dakar back in 2008 and he was on it and was my room mate. In one city, he went to a brothel and picked up a whore and also bought some coke. He went back to the room and snorted the coke off her ass and fucked her all night. I asked him in the morning how much it cost him, and he said he didn't know as he had paid with it on his credit card. Turned out they'd charged him about $10K for it all, so he reported his credit card stolen to his credit card company. They said they would reimburse the money if he got a police report. The funny thing was the local police station was right next to the brothel.

Anyway, he got the report and the credit card company reimbursed him the money, so he had a free night of coke&hookers. He probably funded his Dakar ride the same way.

That's a way cooler story than mine. I met Andrew Caldecott in Paris after he retired (I think 2005?) hurt from the Dakar with a broken leg. He was pretty surprised to be recognized/approached and we had a nice quick chat. Tragically he was killed in the race the next year.

    The spirit of adventure!

Price still has a minute in hand going into the last stage. Would be one hell of a triumph if he holds in there for the win.

Edo met the guy on a BMW safari, told him about the Paris-Dakar trip we were doing, which was only about a month ago, and somehow he got himself organised and on the trip a month later lol.

All Edos mates I seem to room with are loose cunts. We did a trip through South America in 2011, and his mate I roomed with then picked up a whore in Cusco, Peru. I'd had a semi-early night and was nearly asleep in our room when he came back with her. She starts talking in Spanish, saying the same thing over and over, getting more and more terse. He had no idea what she was saying, so came up with an idea to ring up reception, who spoke both Spanish and English. So she gets on and starts talking, then he takes the phone. And the conversation went something like this...... "yep, yep, ah ok. Well tell her that I don't have any, but I've paid the club for her, so I'm fucking her anyway".

Sadly for him, she wasn't in to bareback, but more sadly for me, knowing she wasn't going to get paid, she decided to take something, and the closest thing happened to be my GoPro (which I actually wish I'd turned on at that point to record the conversation).

I only discovered it was gone the next day, and when I mentioned something to him, he asked where I thought I might have lost it. I told him I'd managed not to lose it in the first couple of weeks of the trip, and it seemed a bit of a coincidence it went missing the night he brought a whore home (I think he thought I was asleep through it all).

He asked what I expected him to do about it, and didn't think it was his problem. I just replied with something along the lines of "you're married aren't you? Just buy me another one and we'll call it even".

I'm doing a 6 week motorbike trip across the US with Edo and 2 of his mates in July this year. I might take an old GoPro too this time, to use as a decoy.

Bit of a public outing I must say, ha!

Short of breakdown, TP assured of the win given the tour de france last stage....expect he'll get a number 1 cut on the podium too as Laia Sanz is currently 11th. Was sort of expecting Sunderland and Walkner to be hell for leather today with 3 seconds separating them yesterday, before the iritrack 1hr penalty was imposed overnight.

Pity the poor bugger in the last pic

Epic pics gxxr!! and hear ya. All that fkn sand. You would have to be pretty zen or just plan shattered to not be doing anything about it. I guess you tidy it up only to get filled in again.

Didn't realise the final stage was a bit of a procession. So is it seen as unsportsmanlike to attack on the final stage?

You'd be coughing and sneezing up shit for weeks on end! There's in-utv vid of a french couple from day 4 or 5, ploughing through bulldust and they're just getting smacked square in the helmets by waves of the stuff - like tens of kilos at a time - just couldn't imagine running filthy for days like that.

I think it's been a gentleman's agreement of no attack on the last day since the Dakar beach runs. Start order will be on outright positions rather than last stage result, TP will start last with Quintenilla a couple of minutes in front, Walkner will stop just after the stage start and run with Toby the rest of the way if the usual process takes place.

Gordon certainly has some tenacity, about 3 days behind on time, but made up lots of positions from attrition in the last couple of days. Must have replaced dozens of drive belts and clutches by now, lost drive to the front wheels yesterday....I would have set it alight in the first week!
